357 rifle chrony'd

what have you guys been getting for a velocity range out a regular 357 magnum (not Max)158 gr load in your handi rifles.Be it handloads or factory ammo.I would venture to guess 1800 to 2000 fps.

I am looking specifically for federal fusion loads,if anyone has chrony'd these loads please let me know,federals website claims they are at 1240 fps but they dont say how long the test barrel is. I know they kick like hell out of my 4 inch rossi.thanks in advance.

  Its been some time since I shot or bought any factory loads. BUT, some time back I chronod some 158 Federal Hydra shok in a Marlin lever. IIRC I was getting 1600+- fps. Generally all factory magnum pistol loads are rated from a short, vented barrel, so the vel increase from a rifle/carbine barrel really jumps. Personally, I don't think you will get anywhere near 2000 from a 158 factory load, maybe a 125gr.

A little over 1800fps with the Hornady 140gr LE ammo.

125gr pfn      1949 fps   

158gr pfn      1610 fps

180gr pfn      1488 fps
