Got my first Rossi today :)

It was really strange but I was on my way to work this morning and thought "You know, I'd like to get one of those little break action single shots.".  Truth be told I had an NEF in mind, and if I had my preference it would have been in .22 Hornet, but life can't go EXACTLY how I want .

Went into the local pawn shop today and saw that they had a brand new in box Rossi for $159.  The barrel was longer than the rimfire ones they had and too thin to be a shotgun, so I asked to see it.  Dang - .30-06.  I love .30-06 but I got 2 already - I pass on way too many good .30-06's .  Asked if they had anymore and the clerk said they had a .308 in the back.  I didn't have a .308 yet so I figured I'd take a gamble .

Looking it over, it ain't the prettiest thing in the world that's for sure (I've literally never seen cheaper wood ), but from a function standpoint it locks up tight and the mechanical stuff all looks sound and solid, and for $159 I can't ask for much polishing .  Gonna throw one of my extra scopes on it and go shooting this weekend.  Will let you guys know how it groups .  So far as long as it does decent on the range I think I'll be happy with this little gun .

Not sure, but you might have accuracy problems with this gun.  I have a Rossi Trifecta in .22, .243 and 20 gauge.  The .22 likes 40 grain Blazer ammo the best.  The 243 likes hand loads the best, since it's long throated.  100 grain Winchester ammo is over .250" off the lands.  When I reload to about .030 off the lands the groups really tighten up.  But that's the .243.  The .308 may be totally different.

I've read elsewhere that the wood stock on the Rossi looks real nice when refinished.  You might try that.

I only have one Rossi... a 7.62x39
I wouldn't part with it. I think sometimes Rossi's get a bad rap when compared to some other brands but they are pretty good guns and cheap too.

 I had a rossi 308, It was a pacage deal from Dick's SG Think I paid $249 With scope and hard shell case. I tell you what it was a scope eatin monster. After it had destroyed 3 scopes I finally put a bushnell banner 3X9X44 on and was shootin sub MOA! with Rem green box 150gr.

The Rossi's are pretty amazing guns for the dollar.  Sure they aren't pretty but they are strong and reliable.  They are also generally pretty darn accurate once broken in and you've found your guns pet load. Just remember to s-l-o-w way down when shooting groups allowing several minutes between shots to give the barrel time to cool.
