Anybody fool with the 8x68s? I have a chance to buy one in a brand new Tikka at a real good price. Been sitting on the dealer's shelf for years. Only thing I am concerned with is that I heard RWS is no longer importing cases. Any comments? Correction it's a Krico rifle not a Tikka

That is a very powerful 8mm. Did you check to see if Norma makes brass or factory ammo for this?

It's a great cartridge, but it will be a pain to feed. There's not much more to it than that. I'd locate the cases and price reloading dies before I bought.

Mauser:
The 7th Edition Hornady Manual gives loading info on that cartridge. The tests were made using RWS brass. I would give Hornady a call and ask them about their source for the brass.
This is a non-belted case. The RCBS types might even be able to tell you what US cases could be used to reform for the metric case. Depends how B A D you want that rifle. ;)

Norma does not make only RWS. I need to look in my book of cartridge conversions, but I would rather use brass made specifically for it if availible. almost as bad as finding brass for my drilling chambered for 8MM-360R.

RWS is the supplier to Norma for brass, that is the reason that RWS stopped exporting brass to the USA, Norma requested it.

  There are sources available in Canada for RWS 8x68S brass. $38 for 20. Also Buffalo Arms offers resized 300Ultra Mag cases to 8x68S. Be careful as these are not very consistent for length. Also, be aware that the head size for the 8x68S is .513.  Standard 06 size is .473 and Magnum is .532. This can run into extraction problems for modified (rebarreled) rifles, depending on the gun. Mine is a rebarreled Sako AV w/Lilja barrel. Shoots lights out at 3200fps w/180 gr TSX. I had to miodify the extractor as I used a Magnum action. Works fine now and wasn't much of a problem but it is something to think about. Those Buffalo Arms cases use the standard 300 Ultra head size. They are not true 8x68S cases.
  I've heard that Norma is going to offer 8x68S loaded w/Swift 200 & 220 A frames. This ought to solve any
case availablity problems. I have yet to see any. I bought 300 new RWS cases before Huntington's quit selling them a couple of years ago, so I'm pretty much set although I still keep a look out as they appear now and then on the various sites.
  The 8x68S is a great caliber. I'm taking mine Moose hunting in a few weeks. Should be fun. Hope this helps.
