New to Oregon

I may be moving here shortly to Coos Bay Oregon.  I am from Utah and was wondering what the hunting is like there?  Are there long shots, or is most the hunting done in thicker woods and brush?  I am trying to decide on a new gun for hunting there.  I want to get a stainless gun, but I dont know if I want a lever action or a bolt action.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

     Lots of very thick brush, with some long shots across clearcuts.  Don't go crazy on the scope magnification, as you can only see about 50 yards off when in the thick timber here.  My fixed 4X is way to much for hunting in the thick stuff here.  Eastern Oregon is a lot different then than the valley though, should you want to hunt the other side of the state.

     Basically, you need a brush gun IMO.

Do you think I would be good with getting a marlin .45-70, or should I stick with a bolt action with maybe a 2-7 scope on it?

Just so the critics don't start, here in oregon it is dense and steep. I like a round thats like a 35 whelen that will drop animals fast or leave a good hole on both sides so they leave a good blood trail. If an animal gets away someone else shoots it, you will wish you had a bigger round.
Im in Southern Oregon and brush/trees are thick. I have never shot a bear elk or deer over 75 yards in w. Oregon.  Coos bay is coastal so it is really thick, but where there is logging there will be openings. depends on your hunting stratgies.

I'd say take the lever gun for the quicker second shot.  Elk running through deep timber don't give you alot of time to rack a bolt gun for the second shot.   I hunt the eastern part of the state, but if I was gonna hunt the coast range I don't think I'd even use a scope.
