As I watch another co-worker get laid off, and no noticeable improvement in the construction industry, I am more convinced than ever that the administration is not only inept, but unconcerned.

Missing a chance shouldn't be looked at as any milestone.  Just one more log on the fire.

The aspect of US reluctance to drill in its territory that I find most irritating is that it drives up the price of fuel. If we were to drill and use the oil at a rate that is far lower than capacity, it would still have the effect of telling foreign countries that we have the ability to use our oil, and if they want to sell us theirs, then they have to sell it at a sustained competitive price.

As it its, we have no such option.

We will probably never be "free of our dependence on foreign oil" because it makes no sense to be independent of a source that is reasonably priced.

But this oil is dirty and will produce vast amounts of carbon dioxide which will make a nonsense of any climate change agreement. Another problem concerns how fast oil production is declining in fields that are past their peak production. The rate of decline can vary from field to field and this affects calculations on the size of the reserves. If we are not adequately prepared for peak oil, global warming could become far worse than expected.

Questor said it, drill for what we have we could even pay off the ob1's big debt with the oil that is in the ground in Alaska right now, not to mention the billions of barrels in montana and wyoming. and the West coast. There is still a lot in the gulf!!

We can also build nuclear power plants to navy standards for safety and reduce out dependance on coal fired electrical production.  Then use the coal to make synthetic oil and gasoline.  I saw were Exon contributed $500 million dollars to algae research and production.  In theory, we could produce all of our oil from algae in greenhouses, but it would cover an area the size of Rhode Island.  We could build the greenhouses in the southwest where they get a lot more sunshine and pump water from the Mississippi or the Great Lakes  through pipelines to supply the needed water.  Water could be recycled from them also.  They could also be built around coastal areas where there is plenty of water.  Solving the energy problem with home grown or produced fuel would provide lots of jobs and cut out our imported oil which is half of our trade deficit.

The Govt. doesn't want to drill now,never wanted to drill in the past and isn't going to drill in the future.

It will make some small gestures of "thinking about it" when you are paying $ 4+ a gal at the pump again but why would they give up another way of controlling the public.

so all data from these morons are irrellevant.  Yet the media and the left wing are requiring peopl to learn that a falsehood is true.  And use it as an excuse for why they do not want to drill for more oil.  My question is.  How do they think that the greatest country in the world will polute the ground and water but some tin pot country in the middle east or south america will not cut corners and polute?
But the administration does not want you to have a job in the private sector.  they want and think all jobs should be Government.
the people that want to "change" the country are looking to China and Cuba as models where it is a demand economy.
They fully understand that lower energy costs mean less costs on the shelves and that printing more $ only raises those costs.
No one can be that stupid to not understand that:
 less fuel = higher costs for everything. 
Higher costs = less buying power.
Less buying power= demand for goods. 
Less Demand for goods=fewer jobs. 
Fewer jobs = fewer workers.
Fewer Workers = a lot less demand on goods and services
Lower demand on goods and services = less profits.
less profits = fewer tax dollars.
to get the economy going these morons in office need to make energy available, lower energy taxes, and then lower over all taxes while freezing or cutting spending and we will have a booming economy.  This is all basic economics that I learned in High school from Ltc. Brown.

It is about power and control, not about prosperity for everyone.  It is trickle up poverty, exact opposite of trickle down prosperity.  Rich people hire people, rich people provide the jobs, rich people spend more money, can also be applied to rich corporations.  Tax the rich and big corporations = less jobs and more dependents on government.  More dependents on government = more power for the party in charge which eventually will eliminate all other political parties.  Health care is about 15-20% of the total economy, not counting the take over of GM and Chrysler.  They want to take over big oil, mining, and utilities also.  That doesn't leave much of the economy left for private owners and corporations.

Has ANYBODY seen any jobs this stimulus has produced??? I haven't seen anything here. Sales are still good but my hours have been cut big time. Only 26  hours this week. I drive about 65 miles round trip and they have scheduled me to work 1/2 days, it's the pits. Hired 9 new mgrs, too many before that, then cut our hours. POWDERMAN.

I agree entirely. I think our government knows full well what it is doing with the global warming scare. The problem is there are just to many people that can't think or reason for themselves. People like Steve Connor that wrote the article, who is just another Al Gore clone. If our government was really concerned about an energy shortage, we would be building nuclear power plants, and extracting our own oil.  I just wonder how many of these global warming scientists have been paid off to say what the Obamacrats what them to say. Are the mindless sheep ever going to stop marching toward the slaughter.

  Of course I don't agree with much of what Steve Connor says, but if one wants to believe oil is running out then that should spur us to greater, not lesser, exploration and development here. Of course most of you guys have nailed it; the "stimulus" is not for the nation's health but for greater control by the Socialist/Marxists. That is obvious by how each portion of our grandchildren's "taxed away" wages are being directed at present.

Where are the guys around here who voted for and defended Obama?  His stimulus isn't working.  His take over of GM and Chrysler isn't working.  Look at Ford, no government stimulus, just plain good management and they posted a profit recently.  If Government stayed out of the way, they would have filed bankrupcy the old fashioned way, reorgainized, and would be pulling out without government money and take-over.  They were looking for a hand out like the banks got.  56% of the American people were against the bailouts from day one.  Where did all that money go?
