Hey k kid,
There's nothing to be afraid of; both Toyota and Nissan trucks are built in the U.S. and I wouldn't trade my Tacoma for anything.

If GM is still around when I need another truck and that will be awhile, considering the service I'm getting from the one I own now, It will be a GM. For what I need to do Toyota and Nissan ain't in the game. Not big and stout enough. I've driven Fords and Dodges too, employer trucks, not mine. I don't need either of those either. I see posts giving Toyota and Nissan credit for building their trucks in the US when they are only assembled here and griping about Dodge, Ford, and GM being made in Mexico and Canada. It's the same deal for all. Part of the dollars spent on any vehicle stay here and part go to a foreign country.

If and when I need another truck and a GM isn't available I'll rebuild the one I have. If parts aren't available then I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I'm not worried about the "cash for clunkers" going away. Just less tax dollars that Obama and Company throw away.

If i ever find a GM truck that is stronger and tougher than a COMPARIBLE
ford i might consider it, but don't think that will happen, people want to drive
a gm truck with large engine then a ford with smaller engine and talk
how strong the gm is. The company parts truck we just retired has a 5.4 gas
engine 247k miles has had water in the oil for about a year, transmission slips
if you put it in OD. Replaced it with GMC ( for some stupid reason) same size
has 21K on it and has been in shop for 4 days at one time. Guess what they
use when it is in the shop? I love to point that out to the parts mgr. ;D

Be glad you didn't get the new Ford i got,

Rear end leaks they just couldn't fix, even after several tries.

Several times i went out in the morning, to find it dead, because the puter turned the interior lights (or something else) on.

  Water pump puked.

I could go on, but you get the pict...

A neighbor, who is a sales manager at a local dealer, told me they stopped participation in the program, b/c the govt has not paid the money the dealer was owed.

House Racing to Pass $2 Billion Bill to Boost 'Cash for Clunkers' Program
The House is racing to pass a $2 billion standalone bill Friday to further fund the financially strapped "cash for clunkers" program, whose early success threatened to sink the car-rebate program.

Kids around here do what they call "rallying".  They get some money together and buy an old car or truck and take it out on the back trails and see how much fun they can have jumping and flying over ditches and banks.  They go like mad till they break something that stops the vehicle.  Then they drag it home and make enough repairs just to get it back on the trail again.  In the end they have totally destroyed the vehicle.  If it dies out on the river bed it becomes the center piece for a big bonfire and beer party.  Otherwise it is dragged home and left, till dad hauls it to the dump years later.

Well one of these vehicles was sitting in the back yard of a local man, whose kid had left it there.  The kid is now in the military and gone.  The guy had loaded it up on a trailer to haul to the land fill.  Broken springs and shocks, blown head gasket, leaking radiator, crumpled fenders.  His wife was bugging him for a new car to drive back and forth to work.  She had selected the car and was ready to go get financing.  He read about the clunker program, and that the only requirement to qualify for the clunker program, was that it be driven in to the dealership.  The tags on the vehicle were still current anyway.  He went out and found the old rally car would start.  Smoked, popped, knocked, missed, screamed, but it ran.  Did not sound like it would last long, but it ran.

Towed it into town, parked across the street from the dealer ship.  Unloaded the car, fired it up, drove it across the street, and right up to  the dealerships front door.  The salesmen hearing the rattling and clunking, and seeing all the smoke billowing out, ran outside and asked him to shut it off.  There it died.  He got his $4,500.00 on the purchase of a new car for his wife.  Killed two birds with one stone so to speak.  Got the old rally car out of the yard, without having to pay the fee at the land fill.  And got the wife off his back about a new car for her.  The locals are really making a big deal out of this.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

He read about the clunker program, and that the only requirement to qualify for the clunker program, was that it be driven in to the dealership.

It also has to have proof of one year of title AND insurance.  Senator Feingold is fighting for a change in the re-written and re-funded bill because the Clunker program is not fair to Wisconsin and New Hampshire drivers who don't need insurance.

Maybe if you have a friend in the car insurance business, they could find a way to back date a policy?

Cash for clunker program is a pretty good look into what they could do with health care.

Whoops, too many people signed up.  Whoops, we are out of money.  Whoops..the car dealers are saying the forms are worse than a tax form.  Whoops...we can't let the people drive away with a new care cause we are not sure how or when they will get their cash now.  Whoops, we did not know 1 billion would just "go away" in 4 days instead of November, we "guessed wrong"....and had no idea what we were doing really. Whoops...they ain't buying GM, they are trying to buy other stuff.  Whoops...whooops....whoops...

People are going to trust them with figuring out health care at a trillion (actually they have no idea what that cost either)...and they can't even figure out cash for clunker programs at a billion?

It's just been extended by another 2 billion. In other words, they tripled it. This should be good news for illegal alien mexicans driving their old clunkers to the dealers to get a better car.

If I drive 70 clunkers to a Mercedes dealer can I get a new Mercedes for free?

How true. Our government can't even buy junk cars without screwing it up, and to think that there are people that want them to get involved in health care. Unbelievable!
