Can I count this one?
« on: October 01, 2003, 12:30:42 AM »
Of the 26 hogs I've killed over the past 30 something years this one has got to be one of the smallest!  He might go 50 or 60 pounds on the hoof.

Monday afternoon I went down to the hunting club shooting range to shoot my muzzleloader a little.  On the way back home I deceided to stop at my deer stand and see what was coming in.  I had hardly settle down when 5 little hogs came to the feeder.  The one I shot was the biggest.   My question is, can I really count this one as a hog?  Maybe I should say I've killed 25 hogs and a pig! :)

I've got to say one thing.  The .490 patched roundball and 85 grains of Goex 2f was way more than was needed for this little pig.  If I had brought my 22-250 I might have gotten two of them. :)

Of course he counts! You have just killed yourself the best-eating sized pig you can find. I can smell the barbeque pit now.... 8)

perfect eating size piggy.  Cooked whole on a smoker over some oak or mesquite is great!

Heck ya you can count him. (or her)  A few months ago I needed some BBQ meat for a big party, so I set the traps on our place.  We caught 7 one morning and 5 the next all about that size.  Some of the finest eating that will come out of the woods.  If we have a choice that is the size we shoot.  Very few times do we take any over 100lbs.(unless we need sausage meat, and we make sure it is a sow)  We trap the big boys and sell um live.  Last year any boar 300 or over brought .50 per lb. plus a 15.00 bonus.  Much better than killing and having to eat the rank things.  The boar meat is sent to Europe, and brings premium prices there.  Go figure?

Dang Ironwood!  That there is a snack piggy

Still a good kill though with a "muscle loader"

I would reckon a 22-250 would drop those like a bad habit

Howie... take those photos back to Wal-Mart and let those girls put them on a disk for you.  You won't have to scan them that way.
