Warning do NOT log onto CARS.COM
« on: August 01, 2009, 12:29:16 PM »
Do not log on to the Government web site CARS.COM.   Doing so can give the Government full access to your computer indefinitely.

uh.. no.
that disclaimer is for the dealership computers. the reason behind it, is so that the dealers do not double dip.
a better understanding of how, cookies and digital tags and website certificates work would tell most people thats not realistic for them to have access "indefinitely" ..

Okay maybe not indefinitely.  But do you care to have the Government have full access to your computer for even one day? Access to all your financial transactions, history of every website you visited, every saved e-mail you sent or received, the names and addresses of all your personal and/or business contacts, etc.?

let me ask you this, how large would a computer need to be, how massive would the HHD need to be, the bandwidth, the processer, and on and on.. to filter, capture, store, copy, transfer files, etc..  for the Gov. to be able to view everyones computers that log onto the website ? the file transfer PTP, mail POP, and everything else needed for them to view whats on ur harddrive ?
i just dont see the Gov having a computer the size of a battleship with 100,000 T1 landlines runnning to it  to make this even possible.
keep in mind they cant clone ur HHD instantly, they'd have store it and review it later. they cant review every computer that dials onto the website at once, or they'd need rooms full of people in the hundreds wouldnt they ?

besides, if your not using a seperate harddrive to actually store stuff, if your using the built in hhd for that stuff, your asking for trouble anyhow..
my laptop has a 80gig hhd, but it contains the OS only.. my hhd for actually storage is a portable 160gig hhd thats connects by a usb cable that i unplug when not in use..
