do i have the last grover?
« on: August 19, 2009, 02:56:06 AM »
i ordered 2 # 5's from bill grover by phone with personal conversation when doing so. after i had paid for them and chosing my consecutive serial numbers K275 and 276 i began to have problems getting bill on the phone. jonathon meeks one day answered the phone and advised me that he had taken over production and i would be receiving them shortly. it didn't happen "shortly". after i contacted the texas attorney general and traded correspondence w/ his office i finally got a call from the law office that was in charge of and had all rights and property of tla. ( that lawyer had a financial interest in tla). after negotiations w/ them and the texas atty general i did finally receive all the components to build one gun. plus they sent me an assortment of all the internals, extra triggers, hammers etc. they had to send  several parts to a local jewler to have the serial number placed on the required parts and a logo on the frame. yes, i received a box of parts, no finished piece. i will post pics of the finished product. so my question is: do i even own a grover at all or is it the last one built?

1.No
2.Last one assembled from parts? Who knows? The gun has an interesting provenance, though, if you've kept all the correspondence.

Where are you located?  I'd love to see all this if you are close enough.  I'm in NC.   :)  I'm especially interested in the timeline and names of the people involve (I've been researching the company for 5 years now and all this would be new info for me).

From what I understand, the last TLA gun actually built by Bill Grover was a West Texas Flat Top Target that Jim Taylor used to own.  A forum member here now has it.  I wasn't aware that any guns were made after Grover left the company.

This is also interesting given 90north's assertions for years that Grover cheated him out of a gun.  Perhaps his anger is better directed at the people who took the company over?  Who knows....

Last Grover,

Would you mind emailing me, please?  I'd like to ask you a question off-board.  Thanks!   :)

That would be me!

Last Grover,
That is an interesting and thought-provoking story. I would be very interested in seeing your sixgun as well. I would also be very interested in acquiring some of the extra internal parts. Please feel free to email me at boge@gunblast.com.

Bill Grover's story, from what I know of it, was a very sad one. I can certainly understand 90north's anger and bitterness, but I do believe it to be misdirected. Certainly the anger towards Bill's son is misdirected - Bill's son should not be expected to right wrongs that were not of his doing at his own (considerable) expense, especially those that were the result of his dad's getting screwed-over by lawyers.

Dag Nab it Boge!....  There is no doubt that I NEED a West Texas Flattop....
FWIW John Gallagher tells a tale about putting one of the TLA "part sets"  together....
Makes one wonder how many "part sets" were delivered....

axehandle, my gun orders was taken and the gun i have was built by bill grover, it was not a gun kit like gallaghers. the difference is that mine had to be dis-assembled by the crooks that took over bills company so the serial numbers and logo could be applied as that was the last thing to be done before bill was to begin bluing. the gun was finally completed in march of 2003. i did get ripped off for a 45acp cylinder and a 44 magnum number 5. the ripoff came from  jonathon meeks and the lawfirm he worked for. bill grover nor anyone in his family was responsible  for my losses. the crooks did throw in extra parts and a holster because i made such a stink w/ the attorney general

I spoke with Bill Grover when I ordered the pistol, Bill Grover signed the letter saying the pistol was ready to ship.  I don't think my ire is mis directed.

90north,

Bill Grover was ousted from TLA about the time all that went on.  It is entirely possible that the ownership of TLA after he left didn't follow through on your order.  They left many others in the same position as you were.  I'm not saying that is what happened, but by January of 1998, Grover was no longer part of the company and couldn't have shipped a gun if he had wanted to.  What was done with the inventory that he left behind is anyone's guess.
