I have a couple of 1892 copies and the locking lugs are TIGHT in the receiver. I just picked up an original 1886 that had rusted a lot at one point, and has since been refinished. The left lug is tight when locked-up but I can wiggle the right lug some. Is this thing still considered tight enough to put rounds through?

SOUNDS LIKE A TRIP TO A GUNSMITH IS IN ORDER. Advising anything less would put you at possible risk.

Thanks, but I know it is safe in the short term to shoot as these actions are plenty strong for SAMMI level loads. I am not worried about my safety as much as having the gun get progressivly worse. The previous owner had shot it enough to know it wouldn't "let go". And I have already put rounds through it. It shoots great. If trapdoor level loads could take that bolt and shear both locking lugs I would say a miricle has occured.

Better safe than sorry. That lug needs to be replaced or built up, fitted and heat treated. One the the Browning lugs may work with a little fitting.
