Rechambering a 256 Win Mwg

It seems that the 256 win mag that I am trying to sell is going over like a turd in a punchbowl.  I was wondering if it might be feasible to have the barrel rechambered to something that is still factory loaded.

Any thoughts?

ammoguide has a rechamber feature were you type in what you have and it will give you everything it can be rechambered for.

had nothing to do for a few so i looked it up for you with no change to the extractor/ejector you can go to 7mm super mag, 30-357paxton,38 long colt, 357 mag, 357 remington max. , 357 spec mag, 38 short colt,

None of those can just be rechambered, they all require a rebore which would likely cost more than a new barrel! You could rechamber to 25-35, maybe to 257 Roberts, dunno if the Contender will handle it tho.

No .257 Roberts for the Contender but the .250 Savage might be do able if you stick with factory pressure loads. SSK did a .300 Savage for me and have done some .250 Savages. My recommendation if you really want to rechamber would be a .257 JDJ but if barrel is less than 12" long that's really a lot of powder to burn in such a short barrel. A .25-35 would be more appropriate but wouldn't sell any better. You really don't have a lot of good options but the JDJ round is the best of them in my opinion. Or you could have one done as a .25-35 Improved or .30-30 AI case necked to .257 tho I'm not sure what that would be called exactly.

    In factory loaded ammo your choices are zilch :'(, sorry!  Yes, 25-35Win and the marginally OK 250Sav are still factory loaded, but try finding some and, if you do...check the price.  I have two .256's and really enjoy shooting them.  Of course I reload them.  I'm betting a custom ammo maker(and we have one as a member here) could supply you ammo and with no more cost than the 250 or 25-35.  I may be just a touch sentimental here...my first Contender 36 years ago was and still is a .256Win Mag.  I still remember totally amazing myself and my shootin' buddies...I could actually hit a pop can(OK it was probably a beer can) at a hundred yards with a pistol....WOW!!! :o :o :o.

correct i forgot to punch a box so it gave rebore options my error
