452 American - Hard to close bolt
« on: August 05, 2009, 04:11:05 PM »
Lately my 452 bolt has been hard to close, even with empty chamber.(CCI stingers push into the rifling a little on my rifle)
I gave it a thorough clean removing all carbon build and then a light oiling - still hard to close.
I then hand polished out the machining marks on the ramps on the bolt and in the receiver - a little better but still hard to close.
Is it possible I have over torqued the mounting screws and bent the receiver?

Any help greatly appreciated

Sounds like you've got it into a bind the last time you broke it down and put it back together.   They can be a pain.
Try to identify the problem by removing the action from the stock, and working the bolt.   If it works fine, then you know you didn't seat the action into the stock correctly.  Oops, I noted you said hard to close, not working the action.  That may take some close observation.   You may have something in the final locking groves of the receiver.  Someone with more experience may be able to help you.

As far as the CCI ammo is concerned.   CZ .22's Chamber bores are similar to a target rifle bore and CCI ammo is somewhat longer than regular .22 ammo, making loading and extrating that particular ammo difficult.   Some CZ owners say they don't have that problem which seems strange to me if all are made the same.
