Hand lapping question.
« on: August 10, 2009, 05:51:28 PM »
Hello all,

I spent all night reading help sticky, but I still have a question. If my SB2 ultra .223 is already a tack driver, would it be worth the time and effort to lap the barrel? She has maybe 50-75 rounds through her, and seems to be more accurate than I am.

Thats all I needed to know, I have to polish the chamber, and didn't know if I needed to go the whole 9 yards. Thanks

I wouldn't polish the chamber if it's a manual extractor barrel, that's only an issue for spring ejector barrels and sticking brass.  ;)

I agree with Rusty, why try to fix what ain't broke???

Sounds like you got a good shooter!! Go buy another caliber and start over, sooner or later you will find one that needs "massaging".  ::) ;D

Find yourself a .243 Superlight if you have the urge to tinker. ;)

lol  ;D, no such thing.

It has a sticking brass issue, it doesn't matter what brand or breed, so I didn't know if I should go ahead and smooth up the bore when I do the chamber. Oh well, I guess I'll have to keep buying barrels until I get one that needs attention. ;)

Did you try cleaning the chamber?
Sometimes just cleaning it will get rid of the sticking brass... especially in a new Handi... oil and gunk in the chamber will stick the brass.
Try cleaning the chamber real well and see if it ejects better... if not then you should probably polish it.

In regards to the perfect wife...
I had one once... she was too perfect... I had to divorce her. :D
