Pedersoli sharps and Marble improved peep sight

I recently picked up a Pedersoli Hunter sharps in 45-70 and am thinking of putting a Marble improved peep sight on it.  They do not list a base or screw set for this rifle.  Contacting Marble only resulted in being informed that "we do not list that rifle".  Has anyone tried to mount one of these sights, what base and screw set, and what the ranges for the various posts?

Why can't you use the sight they list for the regular 1874 Sharps...? It's not like they are different rifles or something.

The problem is Marble lists 5 different sharps (American Arms, Armi, EMF, Shilo, Taylor-I realize some of these are actually the same under the name of different distributors, although none are made by Pedersoli as far as I know), all using the same base but using four different screw sets, two different posts, and no note as far as range estimates for the different 4 post heights. Considering that Pedersoli is one of the most popular sharps, it would seem that Marble would accomodate these rifles.  I would consider a creedmore type sight but a quality one costs half the price or more of the rifle, whereas the Marble seems to be of good quality at a good price.  Terry

Terry, not an expert on sharp's rifles or sights. So here goes pedersoli does make their own brand of tang sight in both mid-range and long range versions. And I think in different price ranges. If I still had my 1875 business rifle in 45/70 I would be sorely tempted to try it out at longer than the normal shooting distances. Just a suggestion. Frank

Terry, I own 2 92's that I use in CAS shooting and have the improved Marbles on them both. I also have them mounted on my H&R BC in 45-70. I also own the Pedersoli Competition rifle. I have the boxed set of soule sights and front bubble globe sights on it. If you are going to be using your rifle for just hunting then the Marbles sight will work fine. Your Pedersoli will use the same sight that is listed for the standard Sharps. The screws are 10-28 for the tang. If you want you can buy a tang sight for anywhere from around $65- $750. You have alot of choices to think about . The Marbles sight sells for a little over the $100 mark from Buffalo Arms. A straight vernier sight with no windage can be bought for less than the Mables. Check out Track of the Wolf.  They have long range sights considerably cheaper than Pedersoli.

Marbles suggests measuring the distance between the two drilled and tapped screw holes, my Italian Armi Chiappas Sharps 1874 was about 2 and one quarter inches.

From Marbles website they make bases in 2.283 inches (58mm) fixed holes (009836/009838), and also 2.000 thru 2.265 inches range with one fixed and one slotted hole (009816/009843).  Some may prefer the fit and appearance of fixed holes over the one-size-fits-most convenience of slotted holes.

If one has a combination metric and regular screw thread gage in their tap and die set, or even some small screws of different threads (8-32, 10-24, 10-32, chinese, etc.) just laying around, then perhaps the hole plug screws can be measured too.  Number 10-32 seems to be somewhat common.

I ordered the fixed 2.283" from Midway (466302), and apparently received the slotted hole version , but it fit alright (only 0.018" difference) front-to-back, but seemed to lean back a few degrees into shooters eye, not exactly perpendicular to barrel or line of sight .

Other Midway posters stated that what they received fit their Petersoli Sharps, but associated screw sets may have not fit.
