243 and Barnes 85 on Hogs.. it works!
« on: September 08, 2009, 09:48:20 AM »
as expected, excellent terminal performance with the Barnes 85 TSX out of my son's 243
he killed a hog at about 40 yards, and the only shot that was good to take was through the shoulders and heart
punched clean through with about a nickel sized exit wound
heart was complete obliterated
pig was about 120lbs

his first hog!

yippie

FPS was 3285

I have been wondering about that bullet in the 243.  Sounds good!

i would have preferred the tipped version but when I was working up loads it wasn't out yet
think it would expand more reliably on deer... had experiences with the tipped version in a 6.8

Barnes themselves claim they do expand more readily & logically they should.

I wouldn't advise same bullet placement with that bullet on a 300 pound hog. On the little ones you can get by with a lot that you can't on a large one.
