Does a rimfire scope need 2 rings?
« on: July 27, 2009, 10:42:25 AM »
I see $$$ Aimpoints mounted on AR's with 1 ring. Why not a low maginification scope? Specific application I am considering is Versa Park .22LR barrel, Numrich short base, $20 CDNN Simmons 2.5x shotgun scope and $5 CDNN "Superduty" low rings. Goal is to get it in front of the hammer and use the existing non Monte Carlo stock.

I did it with a cheap compact scope looks odd but worked fine, wasn't satisfied with the glass/clarity so purchased a bigger scope now I use 2 rings. ;)

Tim's pic, but I imagine this with half the base and the forward ring gone.

With only one ring a scope would be very delicate and easy to knock off adjustment.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

My scope was so short that I could not get scope back far enough to get a proper eye mount so I simply used one ring, as in your picture I removed back ring and used front ring to mount scope at the rear of mount it held solid and remained set until I recently replaced it with a longer more powerful scope. It was an "unusual" setup but what counts to me is does it work.

Coming along. That is an Ultra rail, not a shortie Numrich. And a .223 Ultra Hunter ejector, not a VP.

I am now thinking of loading down the .223 to Hornet levels and trying it with this scope and a non Monte Carlo stock. When I get my Numrich base, I should be able to slide the scope back to the 2nd slot and still clear the hammer.

I'm sure one ring would work in some situations but it would just worry the heck out of me.

One ring? Not on my rifle. It would be too easy to knock outa wack!
