I'm so happy with taurus.
« on: March 18, 2009, 05:55:37 PM »
I'm glad I own taurus handguns.  They are such a pleasure to shoot, and taurus fixed the one real problem I did have quickly.  I'm glad I invested in such a good product.

I must say I have been very happy with my 3 Taurus revolvers.Excellent pistols at an affordable price. The one time a screw dropped out of my .357 608 , it was back in action in a week. I hope nothing serious happens now, as the Australian dealership appears to have changed - Pete

It seems like if you got one that shoots, you're lucky and you'll probably be happy with it.  If you got one that doesn't work and you have to deal with Taurus' customer service, you're gonna be unhappy and hate Taurus.
The latter is the reason that I am now a member of the Taurus Haters Club.

I love my Taurus guns that work.(5 out of 6)  They shoot good and are reliable. Just hating dealing with their customer service. Now thats a joke.

I have much respect for Taurus guns.  I bought my first Gaucho a couple of years ago and since then have bought two more.  I had to send one in to Taurus for a minor problem (the cylinder hole did not line up with the loading gate when on half cock) and taurus took care of it quickly with no hassels.  Love 'em!  44 Man

I was loathe to own a Taurus, much less a plastic one, but got a PT145 Millenium Pro for $300 for a "house gun"; small enough for the wife, and the DA trigger is good for her. Very little chance she'll get spooked and dump a whole mag when it goes off. Took me a little while to get used to it, since I like a DA/SA trigger like the Sig 220, but I can actually shoot it fast enough to do a reasonable doubletap.

All in all, I feel like I got a reasonably good deal on a gun that's reliable and cheap enough that I don't care what happens to it.

Forgot to mention; I have to use Federal primers or else I'll need to hit the primer 5 or 6 times.

Never thought I would own a Taurus firearm but saw a used but excellent condition Taurus 96 in the shop not long ago. A 22lr revolver which looks much like a vintage Smith 17. After looking over the revolver pretty thoroughly I decided to take the plunge. The shop knocked off another $10 which helped.

Unfortunately there were so many misfires during my first range session! Thought I had bought junk. BUT WAIT! Looks like some of the Taurus models have an adjustment for the mainspring tension! Mine just happens to have this feature! So with some added tension the misfires were way down but not eliminated the next time out. A little more adjustment and I had a very enjoyable shooting session last weekend!

The SA pull is a tad stiff but the 96 shoots quite well and I now feel that it was well worth the $239 I paid. So , after initial frustration count me in as one of the happy Taurus owners!

I have a Model 65 .357  that I'm very happy with.  I had to send it in for repairs a month after I bought it and unfortunately it took six weeks to get it back, but that was about 500 rounds ago and I hasn't given me a bit of trouble since.

Im looking at 2 Taurus's one is the 1911 clone the other is the 24/7 both in 45acp.
Like both but only can get 1 so which shall it be?
Im leaning more to the 24/7 due to mag capacity ,hammerless and a few other
features.

The 1911; the other ones, I think, have the problem of only being able to bust Federal primers.

I have both only the 24/7 is a 9 mill. The PT1911 is a very sweet piece of machinery and has given no problems. I haven't shot the 24/7 as much. It stovepiped on it's fifth shot but has gone on to fire every thing else that I've loaded in it, even handloads. It has a pretty good trigger and is accurate. It's my fun gun because it is cheap to shoot, relatively speaking. If I could only have one it would be the PT1911. I just think it is a better gun.

My Taurus Model 80 .38 Spl (Remember those) is still on nightstand duty in my house. It has doubled as a door-stop and state qualification firearm. Last range session I ran 234 rounds through it and it did fine. It's even handled +P loads and did fine even though it was made in '77 and not "rated" for such pressures. It even has a whitetail to its name harvested in 2001 with a Remington 110 gr Semi-Jacketed Hollow Point. I LOVE my Smiths but this Taurus I own has held it's own. I even used to rent the successor, Model 82, to tourists and never had a problem with the gun. And this is around 2k-5k rounds a week.

I recently traded for a PT 1911 AR. Got a great gun with all the bells and whistles of a tricked out Kimber at less than half the price. Ran a bunch of different ammo thru it and couldn't choke it. Very accurate too. I also own a model 94, 9 shot 22 LR revolver with the 4 inch barrel. Very sweet shooting little pistol. I think my wife has laid claim to it. Big thumbs up for Taurus from me.

I bought a Taurus 357 mag, model 608 a couple months back from a private add on a wim. The gun looked to be in good condition, but it also looked to have it's fair share of rounds shot through it. I later started to check this model out on the web and realized what the heck did I do. The first thing I noticed was the heft of this gun. Its weight was a lot more than my S&W model 19. After going to the Taurus site and looking up the 608 I found out this is a large frame revolver, plus the extra weight for an 8 cylinder.
Then it happened, shortly after purchasing it and shooting a few rounds. The trigger started to lock-up. I have worked on S&Ws for years on minor repairs so I opened up the 608. Basicly I think its just a copy of the S&W model 27 or 28.
I found that the problem was that in double action mode, the cylinder lock plunger paw was letting go of the end of the trigger spur a little too soon. No sooner then you start to pull back on the trigger and the lock begins to drop and free the cylinder for rotation, the lock plunger lets go and the lock pops back up and locks that same cylinder before it gets a chance to rotate. Yet if you pull the trigger again, it worls fine.
So out came the plunger paw, did a little file work to widen the end of the plunger in order for a longer contact with the trigger spur, put it back together ( had to do this procejure 3 times) and cured that. I have put many rounds through the 608 since and no more trigger lock-up problem.
I am aware of  the Taurus lifetime repair waranty, but the way I see it is any thing thats free, watch out.
All in all I just love this gun and think Tauras means well yet started a free health care system for guns and can't afford the means to back up all the promise.

I decided to get  a 24/7 OSS 45acp the blue & stainless one thru a local dealer who
orders from Davidsons. We both will go over it extra good and see what happens
from there. Then maybe I can come back and give a good report on it.

Taurus guns are okay if you know how to work on guns, are willing to do so, and have backups. The 1911 seems to be okay.

Taurus guns, when you get one well made and assembled, are pretty nice.  Unfortunately, the likelihood a poor customer service experience is very high.  My several attempts have resulted in my giving up on their CS entirely (after very explicit descriptions, diagrams, etc.).

What a shame to make a pretty nice product, only to destroy it's reputation by providing the worst customer service that I have experienced from any manufacturer of anything.

Good point. Like I said before. I called their Miami office in '02 and they answered the phone, "Hello". Maybe I have experienced two good Taurus' out of thousands. But I will save my purchase money for Smith & Wesson, Ruger etc.

I had saved up for a Kimper and walked out with a PT 1911 with no regrets.  I recently added a Kimper (kimber refuse to spell it correctly) 22Lr conversion and now it is my go-to gun of choice, I have put hundreds of rounds thru it with the 45 slide and thousands with the 22lr slide and absolutely enjoy it every time it goes BANG!  I added a oversized mag release and a basic magwell, with a set of ultra thin grips that I made, I painted the lower half with Duracoat, to look kinda like a desert warrior.  I get many compliments on it and when I tell people that it is a Taurus they are blown away by how nice it looks, then I let them shoot it.  I would have to say my only real complaint is I havent found a inside the waistband holster that will fit with the light rail

Have had 5 Tauri; still have 4, and wished I hadn't sold the one I did. It was the satin stainless 66. But have a blue 66-6, 94-5, 1911, and a 606 SS. All solid shooters; trigger on the 1911 is amazing, as is the 606.

I went looking to buy a Glock and ran across the PT-145 3rd Gen in stainless and I kept wondering why it held so many rounds and cost so much less than a Glock.  Then I held it and it was light years ahead of Glocks on ergonomics.  Then I noticed the lifetime warranty.  Sure they might have problems but I have a backup gun.  I actually thought I was buying a backup gun for my Sig P220 and a better summer CCW gun but the Taurus has been so perfect that I see no reason to carry my Sig in the winter even when I can wear enough clothes to cover it up well.

The Taurus is dang near a miracle gun IMO.  The features, the price, the warranty, and the quality of construction are all just ridiculously good.  It will put 11 rounds in a 6" target from 20 yards in 10 seconds.  My Sig never recovered that fast for additional rounds.  And I still haven't figured out how they managed to get so many .45 ACP rounds in such a small package.  Other gun makers have copied their ideas on that now (especially Springfield) but Taurus was doing it first and cheaper.

And this gun has not had one FTE, FTF or any other problem in about 2000 rounds.  I keep thinking if I talk about it something is bound to go wrong.  I can't believe you get so much gun for so little money.  I really can't.  I'm so glad that I didn't spend my money on a Glock.  I had the money to buy one but I didn't see any reason to buy a gun that wouldn't fit my hand (about 2 Glocks actually do fit my hand but they generally cost double what I paid for my Taurus).  I love the SA/DA trigger of the 3rd gen. models.  I love the way the grips change shape to fit your hand.  I love the accuracy for a CCW handgun.  I love the fact you can put 10 + 1 .45 ACP rounds in a gun that will fit in your pocket.  I like the looks of it.  I like the warranty.  There's not one thing I don't like about this gun except maybe that the mags have such thin metal I sometimes cut my fingers trying to load the mags.

I never intended to carry this gun full time like I do.  I thought my trusty Sig would still be my main CCW gun with my shoulder holster.  But I have a CrossBreed IWB holster now that's just great.  I really like having a .45 for SD too.  This gun has so much going for it that it amazes me still.

I worked three years as a  parts man for a gunsmith.  We had a customer come in with an extremely old Taurus Fajon revolver.  It had lost the front sight and none were available.  I called Taurus (who had just opened up in Florida).  They said that to get his old gun off the streets, they would take it in trade for a new six inch ported .357 Mag at wholesale cost.  The customer was very happy and accepted.  They started out with excelent customer support, if they have gone down some it is probly due to the high number of guns they now have out there.  Both my wife and I have had numerous Taurus handguns that haven't had problems and when I got one I did not like I did as I do with a S&W or anyother;  trade it off!  By the way;  once had a customer with Ruger that would not shoot a good group.  It went back to the factory FOUR times!  After the fourth time it did shoot great, but it should have been that way the first time! 8)

I'm with you on that one.  I never really liked the looks of 1911's, but the all black taurus' style just seemed to talk to me.  I am still not an owner, as there are a couple in line before it (smith mp15 .223, rem 700 338um)  But I guess one of these days, I'm gonna have to show up to a body target shoot with a .45 auto like everybody else instead of my 9mm or 40.....   :P
