« on: August 10, 2009, 06:09:37 PM »
Sunday was slow at the cannon shot.  Saw this kid with I believe his Granddad--Went over to him and asked him if he was a cannoneer...shy kid, gave me a blank stare---do you shoot cannons--no don't have a cannon---wanna shoot mine?---big smile came so quick you had to look out for whiplash...Granddad said okay so off to the Dom Dictator...Told every one on the line what was going and everyone gathered around to watch the kid shoot--Ready!!, Fire!!---I called a cease fire on the range and told the kid to get his cannon ball--we walked down range and the kid picked up the ball and handed it to me---that's not mine that's yours---look out there is the whiplash smile again...wanna shot a firecracker cannon--whiplash---loaded it up and fired away---whiplash---Granddad laid out the cash and the kid went home with a Brooks firecracker cannon and a smile that probably lasted the rest of the day---Granddad went home with 2 feet of cannon fuse--Thanks Southpaw---big handful of firecracker---Thanks MikeRC---and a film cannister full blackpowder.

Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

WowweeeZowweeee!!!!!!!!   There are going to be some great stories floating around the playground when this kid goes back to school. This is the beginning of what could become a lifetime addiction. You got the kid off to a great start, DD. Congrats!!!!

Years ago at one of our shoots there was a gent from Germany. He got some wonderful pictures and got to fire almost all of the artillery.
You should have seen the smile on his face.

And so it must be for all of us.  Whenever we see the opportunity we need to pass on the tradition.

Years ago I worked as a state field rep for the NMLRA and had so many opportunities to show a young person what it was like "back in the day".  In each one of those situations I actually think that I was the one who had gained something.  Although I can't remember the names of these young people I can certainly remember those smiles.

Good work gentlemen.  A lesson for us all.
