My least attractive gun!
« on: November 21, 2009, 07:28:14 AM »
Ok I must admit, Today I bought the least attractive firearm I ever owned.

This poor thing has been sitting on the local gun store used rack for about a month
Before that it was in the backroom waiting for someone who put a deposit down, but they never came back. I guess it was too ugly for them.

Well I've been eying it for a while, of course when no one was looking! So today I'm a proud owner of an ugly Savage Springfield Model 944 .410 shotgun!  :D

Any info on these, years made the choke on the .410 26 inch barrel
There seems to be a lot of parts for these around, even barrels. Does a 20 gauge barrel fit the .410 frame?

I don't call them ugly or least attractive. I call them hunter specials. Kind of like a beater car is a mechanics special, or good work car  ;)

I spent a few hours cleaning it up today
A little light steel wool with oil on the metal parts. Removed the awful covering on the stock and forearm
Wow- there is a little grain under there! Started putting an oil finish on the wood
and it's not looking too bad, maybe not even ugly!

Heck yes its looking good. There isn't such a thing as an ugly gun. Some are just a little better looking than others. ;)

Thanks, I may just have to take her for a walk Thanksgiving Day morning and see if we can kick up some rabbits!
