Found a body
« on: August 14, 2009, 02:26:57 PM »
The more I read these stories, the more I want to share.

I've always been in the woods since the day I could walk, so naturally I knew our woods like the back of my hand, and have never seen or heard anything weird until...I was 16, it was the opening day of small game in PA, and you better believe I was getting my share of the squirrels ;D. I knew a spot about 3/4 of a mile back that was old growth cherry covered in thick vines that held some fat fox squirrels. I found a log to prop myself on while I waited with my trusty H&R 20 gauge. I didn't wait too long before a bushy tail was running the vines, so I shoulderd my shotgun, and gave a little lead when something caught my eye, it was a patch of flannel I could see through the thick vines. I lowered my shotgun, walked around a tangle of vines, and seen what I thought was a prank hanging in a tree, but as I got closer, the smell of decomp told me it wasn't a prank. I ran that 3/4 mile back to the house, and called the state police, they came, and asked where the road was, and if I can ride along to show them. I told them the only wheeled vehicle that can get close was my old sears & robuck garden tractor with a cart, so in we went, me driving, and 2 state troopers riding in the cart. After a pile of photos, and a ton of statements, I hauled them all back out of the woods. To this day, I get an odd feeling when I pass that spot.

That's a heck of a find, Puma. Did they ever find out what had happened there? Suicide? Murder? Accident?

I told them the only wheeled vehicle that can get close was my old sears & robuck garden tractor with a cart, so in we went, me driving, and 2 state troopers riding in the cart.

LMAO  ;D

Sorry, didn't mean to run off like that.

And now here's the rest of the story...

Like I said, that is my family's land, we don't post or anything, it's a small community, everyone knows everyone, ect, ect.  They estimated he was there for 1 1/2-2 weeks, so he was rough looking, no I.D. About a month and a half later, was deer season, and we converted an old dynamite shack on the corner of an old strip mine into a nice hunting shelter. Opening day my dad and I get there, and everything inside was re-arranged from what we had it setup as, so my guess is he was a drifter who hung(no pun intended) out there, maybe depressed, and walked into the woods for the last time. As far as I know, he was never identified. Thats been about 12 years ago now.
