Say a Prayer, Go to jail!
« on: August 14, 2009, 04:54:37 PM »
How can anyone who professes to be Christian support a government that allows something like this to happen?  Wasn’t America founded on the principle of freedom of religion?

This is a long read, but everyone who supports Freedom of Religon should read, then write or call their elected "bums" and tell them how the cow ate the cabbage.

P.S.  One of the local high schools had established a "Bible Study" class for credit towards a diploma, it is going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

From the Desk of:
Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman
Liberty Counsel

Bill,

A few days ago I shared with you the plight of a Florida community
that was mugged by the ACLU when two school officials dared to
say a prayer before a meal.

Santa Rosa County residents are banding together to fight back
as community outrage builds against the ACLU's anti-faith
campaign that has forced two well respected public servants
to face criminal charges and possible jail time.

Now school Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert
Freeman -- both of whom have dedicated many long years of
service to their community -- have learned there's even more
on the line.  They have been notified by the state board of
retirement that if criminal charges hold up, their retirements
are in jeopardy!

Mr. Lay is serving his final year of a distinguished career.
This is outrageous!  Possible jail time, fines, and loss of
retirement benefits, all for the "crime" of blessing a meal!

I feel we simply MUST win this case for the good people of Santa
Rosa County - but it won't be easy.  We're up against the deep-
pocketed ACLU that raised over $300 million last year for
"special projects" like this one in the Florida Panhandle.

Left to their own resources, there's just no way this small school
system and its courageous employees could defend themselves
against the super-rich, big-city ACLU bullies.

Would you prayerfully consider making a special gift
today to help Liberty Counsel attorneys turn back this
ACLU offensive before it hits cities and towns like
yours all across America? Please go here:

Liberty Counsel attorneys are on the front line of this battle
and we need your help! Below I have included the alert we sent
earlier in the week which has more details about this case. Also,
I'm going to be discussing this case with Governor Mike Huckabee
on his Fox News show this weekend.

You can watch "Huckabee" at 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Saturday,
and again at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday on the Fox News Channel.  Thanks
in advance and God bless!

Mat

Report: ACLU wants to criminalize meal-time prayer

If the ACLU has its way, two school employees will go to jail
simply because of a prayer over a meal!

That's right...the ACLU specifically targeted Santa Rosa County,
Florida, school Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert
Freeman for a prayer over a meal at an appreciation luncheon with
booster club members and other adults.

The case stems from an ACLU lawsuit filed last year against Santa
Rosa County schools. In the case, the ACLU used its classic
bullying tactics to get the school and a federal judge to agree
to an overly broad court order that banned any prayer or religious
activities by school employees before, during or after school.

Because the order is clearly unconstitutional, Liberty Counsel
filed a motion to intervene to challenge the order.

++ACLU showing new level of aggression

But the ACLU didn't stop there... ACLU attorneys then began to
target individuals in the school system!

That's when the ACLU filed a legal "complaint" against Lay and
Freeman. The ACLU told the court that Lay's and Freeman's prayer
to bless the meal at the luncheon violated the court order.

Based solely on the ACLU's allegations and without hearing any
legal argument, U.S. District Court Judge Casey Rodgers initiated
criminal contempt proceedings and referred the case to the U.S.
Attorney's office!

Which brings us to today...

In just over one month, these two school employees will
stand before a federal court and face criminal contempt
charges and jail time in a federal prison simply for
offering a prayer at a luncheon!

+ + I need your help to fight back against this outrageous attack

The simple fact is, the ACLU did NOT have to file the initial
lawsuit... The ACLU did NOT have to file the complaint against
the school employees over a prayer for a meal. Yet, the ACLU is
now pushing the criminal contempt charge to intimidate school
employees.

I believe the ACLU has been emboldened by the ultra-
liberal leadership in the White House and Congress to
press an even more radical agenda than ever before!

And the victims of this new ACLU strategy are school principals
like Frank Lay, athletic directors like Robert Freeman... and any
Christian who dares to express his faith - or even say a prayer
before a meal - at a public function.

Liberty Counsel attorneys are right in the middle of this battle -
and I am determined to fight and win against the ACLU's hostile
attacks against our God-given religious liberties.

Mr. Lay and Mr. Freeman have asked Liberty Counsel to represent
them in court.  That means Liberty Counsel attorneys will be in
court standing side-by-side with these two men when this case
goes to trial on September 17.

I need your help to defend these public servants and to head off
the ACLU's attempt to gain a new precedent against freedom.

Just one case against the ACLU can cost literally tens of
thousands of dollars... and that is on top of all our other
efforts to defend life, liberty and family in these dangerous times.

    Bill, would you prayerfully consider
sending a special tax-deductible gift right now to help
Liberty Counsel defend Frank Lay and Robert Freeman
while we continue our many other vital efforts? Go here:

http://www.libertyaction.org/r.asp?U=20875&CID=281&RID=16698200

If we let the ACLU succeed in criminalizing prayer before meals
in Santa Rosa County, Florida, we will witness an unprecedented
assault across the country in the days and weeks to come.

Let's face it... with Barack Obama in charge of the Justice Department,
the ACLU is emboldened and we can expect to see more and more
cases like this one, especially if they start gaining momentum.

Your gift right now of $25, $50, $100 - or whatever the Lord
leads -- will help Liberty Counsel fight in Florida and in
communities like yours across the Nation.

Again... Liberty Counsel attorneys are now at the epicenter of
this battle.  This is the first time of which we are aware that
an American citizen has faced CRIMINAL CHARGES AND PRISON TIME
for praying in public!

Thank you in advance for your prayers and your financial support.
Only by standing together will we be able to turn back such
dangerous, unprecedented ACLU attacks. May God bless you.

Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman
Liberty Counsel

P.S. This time, it is Frank Lay and Robert Freeman who are facing
the brunt of the ACLU's attacks, criminal charges and possibly
jail time. It could have been you or me or any other Christian
in America! That's why I'm asking you to help Liberty Counsel
defend these two victims of the ACLU's bullying. Please help with
your most generous tax-deductible gift today:

I have read about this case before, and it’s a shame that the ACLU is able to file a lawsuit against a teacher saying a prayer.  I think there was another lawsuit against Pace high school for students reciting the Lords prayer during graduation. This subject has been bought up here on GB before, and there are a few that think the ACLU is pro Christian, pro family, and pro constitution. I believe nothing could be further from the truth.

Ever notice that most of the ACLU’s cases are pro abortion, pro sodomy, pro pornography, pro prostitution, anti family, pro crime, pro homosexual, anti God, and except for atheism anti religion. ACLU’s founder Roger Baldwin made this statement.
“We are for socialism, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself. We seek social ownership of property , the abolition of the propertied class, and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.”
I can’t see how anyone can see the ACLU as anything but a communistic organization, that hates what America is.
Those people who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants.    Wm. Penn

Is anyone really surprised at this? The anti Christain coalition of leftist and other assorted loonies is running the government, which of recent years has not been very friendly to Christianity anyway. With their boy on the throne preaching his putrid anti Christian islamophilia, you had to know they would begin their assault in ernest.
People are like slinkies, they serve no purpose yet they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
