Replacement Recoil Pad for a Tikka WH synthetic
« on: September 29, 2003, 03:40:26 PM »
I recently purchased for my son a Tikka Whitetail Hunter Synthetic. I would like to replace the recoil pad with a better one like the new Simms or a decelerator in a do it yourself pad. Do you know what model would fit? I can not find anything on either brands website.

Thanks,

I have installed the decelerator pads on many rifles and they help a bunch.  The pre-fit pads are junk..  They almost never fit correctly..  Buy the size pad for the rifle (or shotgun) you are working with and install it youself, it's not all that hard.. Just a little tip.  When grinding a decelerator pad I usually get them close to where they need to be, then put them in the freezer..  Leave them there for several hours to cold soak..  They will be much more rigid when removed, allowing a finer finish to be achieved.  As a last step I lightly sand with a fine grade (220) sand paper on a block and allpy a bit of WD40.  This is then wiped away...  The oil will really slick up the soft rubber and leave a nice shine..

mbrook,

"gunnut69" has told it like it is.  I have never tried the WD40 trick but I will the next time.  Thanks gunnut.  Lawdog
