209x45???
« on: September 30, 2003, 10:08:27 AM »
I am looking at purchasing the Encore 209xXX Muzzleloader. I have been following your threads here and haven't seen very much in favor of the 209x45. I was leaning that way due to the 2600fps vs 2200fps from the 209x50. What should I be looking for or looking out for in purchasing the .45 cal???
Any comments welcomed. TY

The biggest problem with the 209x45 is accuracy or lack there of.  The one I owned (past tense) patterned very nicely. if you can accept 6-9inch patterns at 100yds you will be happy.  Sent the barrel back to TC and had it replaced with a 209x50, new barrel groups in to 1 to 1 1/2 inches if I do my part.  Not sure why the 45 barrels won't shoot TC won't admit there is a problem but they are doing a lot of barrel replacing if you follow the post on all the forums.

Are they having problems with the G2 209x45 also?  TI've been follwing the Encore problems closely, but I'm more curious about accuracy issues with the G2.  Since they have the same twist rate, I'm wondering if it is a setup issue?  Does anyone have the G2 209x45 that can comment on it.

Just thought I'd let you know that I to bought a 209x45 barrel and was very disappointed with the accuracy on the first outing with the T/C 155 gr XTP sabot. The gun was consistently firing 4-6 inch groups at 50 yds. However, on the next outing I fired 195 gr Barnes Expander MZ sabots and this time was rewarded with three 3 shot groups hovering around an inch. I know this isn't the fix for every one, just wanted to let you know that some of the 209x45 barrels do shoot very well.
