Mounts for 44 man flattop
« on: September 13, 2009, 12:31:06 PM »
I want to put a scope on my 6 1/2 ruger blackhawk flattop 44mag.  I called weaver the mount they had that didn't reqirer drilling and tapping of the flattop were only available for the regular blackhawks.  Do any of you know any more companies that don't require drill and tapping the top strap?  If not thats fine.  What are your favorite types of mounts that have to be drilled and tapped?  Also when the top strap is drilled and tapped, and you take the rings and bases off does this actually weaken the frame in the gun a little bit.  Anyways guys thanks for the help

Can most good gunsmiths not do this job fairly easy if they can drill and tap a rifle for scope mounts?  What's the story with that gun?

Just a nice solid 50 year old 44 that I found on GunBroker a couple of months ago....  Don't know who did the drill work or when...  I made an offer for the gun without the scope and got it....  It will never be more than a shooter grade gun but at least it won't offend the collectors if I decide to add a few custom touches......  Do make note of where the rear screw made contact with the cylinder somewhere along the way....

The "gunsmith" must have been Bubba!! ;D

However, there is a lot of utility value in that ol' piece.
