I HAD to buy this one.
« on: June 14, 2009, 03:40:55 PM »
Prettiest wood on a 30-30 336 I've ever seen on a stock factory Marlin.

Don't know where the seller bought it but he was having huge trouble getting 300 bucks out of it.
I grabbed it.
Not mark one on this as new rifle.
Came with 4 boxes of ammo, all full, never been fitted with scope or peeps, never been loaded.
The case that came with it was one of those airline rated loackable deals that cost him over 100 buks.
He was supposed to take a hunting trip with a furtur father in law but it fell through.
Obviously the seller was no "gun person" at all. He paid over 5 for the rifle then 100 for the hard case and took my 300 bucks.
It's STILL unfired and unloaded.
Might stay that way.
Might put it up for sale as it's got the lovliest factory walnut I've ever seen on a modern Marlin.
Thoughts, comments welcome.
Oh, this was at a gun show and several dealers offered the poor guy a buck and a quarter for it.
I don't know how he kept his cool. I might have laid someone out for an offer like that. :'(

I saw one at a gun show recently that had lovely wood. I didn't linger long enough to check out the price, I figured it was custom and way beyond what I would pay. Maybe Marlin came into some nice wood for awhile.

I have a number just like that only in different cal inc. 30-30. For your info. marlin has two types of wood on their guns. Real black walnut with the cut checkering and eastern hard wood with walnut finish and stamped checkering and Of course there is a big difference in price also. I have a 30-30, 35 Remington and a 1895 SS which is blue not stainless in 45-70. 30-30 and 35 Rem both new never fired and 45-70 may have been shot 10 times. just cant bring my self to fire the 30 and 35 rem. Marlin list the 30-30  at around 650.00 with the real walnut wood, so you did very good. As has been said the show dealers dont want to give anything for a gun but when it goes on their table there is a big price increase. I was at the Oklahoma gun show about 4 mounts ago and a fellow was trying to sell a dealer a TCR 87 with an extra barrel and the dealer told the fellow that no one wanted a single shot rifle and would not even make an offer. I ask what he wanted for the set and now am the proud owner of a very fine rifle that was in mint condition and half of what it was worth, almost dislocated my sholder getting to my wallet. :) :) :)

I almost got a 338 MX that had wood with figuring like that last week end.  It was the best looking piece of wood I've seen on a stock Marlin.  Really had to drag myself out of there before the check book hit 0.  DP

We can't even joke like that here without some folks getting noses out of joint, so I have to take some action even if I am sure it is a joke.
