TC Encore barrel question
« on: August 12, 2009, 06:15:40 PM »
I just bought a TC encore barrel and forarm for my Pro Hunter. Any comments on their performance? What choke tubes would you recommend for turkey hunting? I basically bought the barrel for hunting rabbits and fall turkeys....Not sure if I can give up my Mossberg 835 in the spring.....but I might give the TC a try.

Thanks

I shot it today.......I was very dissapointed. I used Federal 3" 4's. Did not pattern very well at all. Actually shot about 4 inches low. I am going to try other shells......if it doesn't get better, it will be for sale. Anyone have any suggestions on other choke tubes? Are the TC choke tubes ok?

Thanks

Why don't you try some 2 3/4" #6 shot in that barrel. That is all that is needed for rabbits & turkey. You may be surprised.

Shot # 5's out of it........much better pattern, but still low. After some inspection, found out why. Barrel is being sent back to TC. The Vent Rib was not flush with the barrel at the bead. I guess that is why it shot a little low. I don't know how long it will take to get back to me. Hopefully within a few weeks. If I can bring the point of impact up, it should be good. Not sure if they will send a new barrel or fix the one I sent back.

Considering how important fit and feel are in wingshooting I can't imagine trying to actually hit a moving target with an Encore shotgun. I'd reserve it for turkey hunting IF you can get tight enough patterns. To me a shotgun barrel on an Encore or Contender is a BAD idea.

Plan on using it for fall turkey.......and rabbits. Not going to do any grouse or pheasant hunting. I think it will be ok. I have used single barrels all my life.........I am a lefty!

That it is a single barrel wasn't my intent. It's that silly stock attachment geometry that at least for me would totally screw up shooting it as a shotgun but when shooting turkey it's used as if a rifle really. I'd think rabbits would not be so easy for me with one.
