Need loads for Benelli R1 .300 Win mag.
« on: August 23, 2009, 07:57:51 AM »
I have a R1 coming in .300 Win. Mag. and I need some good accurate loads. Benelli says the barrel twist is 1:11". Speed is not as important to me as accuracy.

;) Check the books for IMR 4350. It has been a great all round powder in the .300 for years. If I wanted to check accuracy, I would start with it, CCI-250's and Serria 150 grain flat base bullets. They may not be suitable for the game you hunt, but that combo has been accurate in all the .300's I have used.  :D

Thanks for the suggestion. I am well aware of the good loads using IMR4350. I was looking for loads for this particular rifle and twist. 150gr. bullets maybe a little light for a 1:11" twist. I already have another .300 Win. Mag and a .30-06 that likes your load suggestion but the .300 the barrel twist is different and it is a single shot. I use a load of IMR4350 and 150 NBT in the .30-06 and it will cloverleaf.

:DThe std. twist for  the .300 is 1-10 at least in most of the guns I have dealt with. With a slower twist lighter bullets are necessary from all that I understand. A quicker twist would require heavy bullets. ;)

Thanks. But according to Benelli the twist is 1:11". My other .300 win mag is a custom single shot rifle and it is 1:10". So that is one reason I am looking for a reader that has reloaded for the R1 in .300 and see what worked best for them. I really have no need for a heavy bullet load for whitetail.
