06 Misfire
«

As some of you know i just got a 30 06 and sighted it in broke in the barrel ect.
Took it out again and it misfired 6 out of 50 roundes, The firing pin is loose and not binding and I'm holding the trigger firm. The rifle is new so not sure why the problem. I just read the thred on the 30 30 misfire and his rifle is older than mine so didn't think we had the same problem. If this has been covered in another thread could you please point me in that direction.
Many thanx

Hand loads cci primers, not sure what changed. the primers are seated a little more than flush but this has never been a problem, I also full resize. Nothing else has changed all Ive done is clean the barrel but nothing near the firing pin.

Drop one of the unfired handloads in the chamber and check to see if it's recessed below the chamber face of the barrel, you may be FL sizing them too much, the headstamp should be flush with the barrel face, use a straight edge across the chamber to check it, you should adjust the sizing die so you can just close the action on the brass with no gap between the frame and barrel face. CCI primers are harder than others which may also be part to blame and being recessed slightly in the primer pocket doesn't help. Also, weak hammer springs on new H&Rs are a known issue, Wolff makes heavy springs for them.

Thank you Tim
I was unaware that you could ajust FL dies only been RL for a year. Thay are a hair below the barrel face. this could definitly be my problem.
PS: Thought you just tightend the die to the press ram and away you go.
Many thanx

That's a recommended initial setting, but I turn the die in a little at a time until the sized case just fits the chamber so I have zero headspace or as close to it as I can get, it all depends on how well the barrel is fitted.

Your loads will be more accurate and your brass will last longer if the headspace is at a minimum!
