I Love my little 223 for anything larger than tree rats and smaller than Elk!  ;)  Seriously the 223 is a good all around varmit round

Since no one else has mentioned it, I will.  You may want to consider the 25-06.  It is probably one of the most all around if you want to hunt varmints to deer.  there are many bullet weights available, plus you get the 26" barrel.

I love the .25-06! It is superb in many facets of hunting.  It is under appreciated as well. I don't think I would enjoy shooting it for yotes though.

Hello from Georgia,

   It has been mentioned a few times, but I would like to make my case for the 45/70. First of all, it is plenty accurate out to 200 yards and beyond with a little prep and practice. Second, it is very accurate. Third, I do not think any coyote on Earth would ever escape after taking a 405 gr. slug square in the shoulder. And finally, thay are so dang accurate. Perhaps it is a bit much if you are going to save the pelt, but........it does make for an affective round for stopping a big coyote. Sure there are plenty of smaller calibers mentioned, and each would be sufficient, but hey, if you are going to make a hole, it may as well be a B I G one ;D. One more Handi I think has been overlooked is the .280. With 110 gr ballistic tips, it is an extremely accurate flat shooting round. But I still prefer the .405 45/70. Have a great day.
