Tikka 695?
« on: September 29, 2003, 10:32:35 AM »
I ran across a nice blued Tikka labeled as a 695 in 30-06 yesterday - topped with a Vari-XIIc 3-9 scope, marked at $700, got them down to $600 as the dust told me it'd been there a while.  I've got it on hold for now.

This looks like a very nice bolt-action rifle, with a detachable box magazine, and a very smooth action.  The wood was a simple piece - probably some 'Hunter' class weapon.  Overall a well balanced weapon.

I simply don't know a darn thing about them.  Anyone have an idea of the age?  Is the 695 simply the action used on a whitetail model?  Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Q

That's too much if it's used.

From everything I can find, the Tikka Model 695 is a Whitetail, or should I say the Whitetail is a model 695. :?  Try looking w/ Google Search Engine for Tikka 695 and see what sites come up.

It is used - not a lot, but not a case showpiece.  Thanks for the insight.

695 means that's it's a long action (595 means short action).

You can normally get a new Tikka Hunter in .30-06 for about $400.  They don't make Leupold Vari-X IIIs anymore, but last year, when they were new, they were about $200.  Adding $400 to $200 = $600, so if they are selling you a used gun and scope for $600, then it's too much.  $400 to maybe $450 would be better, but no way at $600.

As for the gun itself, I own several Tikkas and I can tell you they they are excellent rifles.  Very well made and very accurate.  They are made in Finland and have high quality control.

Like Zachary said, Tikka rifles are superb shooters.  I really like my own and others that I have shot.  But the price may be a little high.  Around my part of the country though you will pay over 500.00 for this setup.  I suppose it depends on if you want to give this place your business or really want the gun right now.  It might be worth it to ck on the internet etc... but when you end up having to have it shipped to someone in your area with an FFL you may be better off buying this one depending on what you have to pay someone to receive the rifle for you.

Appreciate that.  I'm going to pass - now I've found a single shot rifle that has my eye.  :-)

BTW, I'm in Midland.  Duck hunter?  How'd things go up north last weekend?

I dont do ducks and dont know anyone who does, although I am sure there are plenty around who do pursue them.  Most people around here are into partridge and geese.  Lots of both this year.  I generally fish (walleye) and hunt deer.  What kind of single shot you have in mind? Sounds like another good discussion.

...I called the shop in Graying that I saw it at, and put some money down on it today.  Its a Browning 1885 low-wall in .243 with a Nikon Monarch 3-9 on top of it.

BEAUTIFUL gun.  It will automatically be the best looking thing in my collection and I understand from some other posts (including Graybeard's) that these are quite accurate.  Can't wait to pick it up when I'm back up there next week and give it a try.

Since I don't have a dog and the pheasant hunting has dried up so much down here, I've gotten out of the upland bird hunting.  With my daughter now hunting, I need to get back into it - lots easier to take an afternoon walk than messing around getting wet.  I have a lot of great memories of it, and I always seem to scare myself silly getting to my stand the first few times as I discover their roosts.   :)

How's the outlook/population for partridge this year?

Quad, I go thru Grayling (or by it on the freeway) several times each year on my way to Ludington.  In my times that I have stayed in Grayling I never knew there was a gun shop there. . . although I have stopped at Jay's several times.  The partridge are spotty depending on where you are hunting.  Where I usually see them there are none this year, but some of the guys I work with  have had good success.  Of course with the snow we got this week it may put them off for a few days.  Sounds like you found a very nice rifle, enjoy. :D
