Something isn't right. I don't think your 1955 Ruger was intended for a Mag cylinder. Check your bore diameter. If a 7/32 drill bit will fit in the bore, it's OK for 22 mag, if it won't fit, then you have a 22 S, L, LR only barrel.

You might want to visit the Ruger forum at: http://www.rugerforum.com for more detailed info on your gun.

To switch cylinders: Place the hammer in the half-cock position. Open the loading gate.  Just in front of the cylinder, there is a spring loaded cross pin that secures the base pin. Press on the left side of the cross pin while pulling the base pin out. The cylinder can now be removed. Insert the other cylinder and wiggle it until it seats. Push the base pin in until the cross pin locks it.

Good luck!

In addition to the good advice above, Ruger will provide a manual if you contact them. Used to be free of charge, not sure now, and it will probably be for a New Model, still useful though.

Sorry about that-this piece was made between 61 and 62(I read the list wrong) and is classified as a "magnum model"-considering bore size,it will probably be more accurate with magnums then? By the way-the manual is available right on Ruger's website in PDF format. Thanks guys for all your help,Mikail

If the other cyl was made /fitted o your gun, i should have the last 3 #s of the ser # engraved on the face of the cyl. If it matches, your all set. Ifnot, Ruger can match it.

To change. Push little pin in front of cyl in frame. While holding pin in, pull out on long cyl pin (that goes through the cyl.) lastly, open the loading gate and pull the cyl out that side. assembly is just the oposite.
