Introduction
« on: August 21, 2009, 04:57:29 PM »
Hi All,

Thought that I'd introduce myself.  Have been lurking for a long time and have used the information here to tweek a couple of my Handis and am grateful for all of the expert advice freely given.

My original Handi was a .30-30 followed by a .308.  Added .45-70 and .223 barrels to the .30-30 frame and then purchased a used .25-06.  Later fitted the .223 barrel to the .25-06.  Plan to have a .22-250 fluted bull barrel to the .308.  One note, all are ejector barrels and the only one that has given any trouble is the .223 which still wants to FTE even after polishing the chamber.  Will try the ejector fix as soon as I get around to it.  Had to free float the forarms on the .308 and .25-06 to get 1" +/- groups.  .30-30 and .45-70 are the favorites, Hornady LE is the gold standard in factory loads.  Love being able to use spire point bullets when handloading for the .30-30 and plan to work up a 165 grain load for deer hunting with it.

A little about me: 24 year Active Army Master Sergeant.  Retire on 31 December.   Currently stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.  Married w/two college age kids.  53 yo and have had a huge interest in firearms as long as I can remember and have owned a bunch of them since I turned 18.

Welcome and thank you for your many years of service.  People like you have insured that we remain a strong and free nation.  Now, if we can just get the politicians under control, we'll be all set.

Enjoy your retirement, your kids and your guns.

Pete, Why can't we get those politicians under control? We the people vote them in and then we no longer have a say in what they do. If we try to CHANGE anything we are labeled as nuts and they can squash us with our own military. When you listen to some of them, I wonder how they got there, let alone how they have stayed for so many years. Think it's time for a 10 million man march. Guess I'll stay part of the problem by just changing the subject. How's the weather and shootin going for you up there in U.P. ? We been getting all our rain here lately. I'm loading some 44s and going to try to tune this Handi Dandy Shootin Iron. Have A Good Day!

P.S. Thank all of you brave Men And Women for your Service Past AND Present.

A tip of the hat and a hearty "THANK YOU" for your service to this nation. You have ventured into an addiction that will never be cured. Both , the handi and the web site. There are a great number of on line friends that you will acquire due to this site. Good to have you onboard. May God bless you and your family/

We're in a third day of rain.....again.  It's so wet, I just checked my toes to see how the webbing was growing.  Can't do squat outside.  The lawn is so high I lost my mower in it!  The plus side of it is I'm finding time to get my work benches straightened out and some dinking (that's dinking, not drinking, although that has been known to happen also) and tinkering done.  The only guns I've had outside is an old 20 ga. Topper and a stainless 10/22.  I'm afraid the rest would rust away before I got them back inside.

Welcome.  There used to be a gunsmith in Copperous Cove when I was at Hood in mid-80s.  He was a retired warrant as I recall.  Spoke pretty good weaponspeak if he's still around.  Started with a ,223 and have 3 rimfires and same number of small centerfire.  its contagious
Will that bow kill an elk?     Sure.....but arrows are much more effective.

Thanks to all for the welcome.  I have lurked here since 2003, found GBO while deployed on OIF 1.  GBO was a little piece of home while down range and I would read it every chance I got.

Oldshooter; plan to stay in Texas, HOR is Cleburne.

Badnews Bob; getting ready to job hunt now.  Like to get new toys, hunt and the shovelhead needs a little attention as well.

Petemi; wish we could get some of that rain down here, been riding 100 degrees here since June and only a couple of rain showers.

Atlaw; Bikers Forum?  Seen where you were with the 1st CAV during Viet Nam.  I did DS/DS with 1st CAV.  No comparison though.

GrandpaMike; bought the shovel new in '82, only thing I've got that I've had longer than the wife.

GPR125; I have been assigned to Fort Hood off and on since '90 and think I know who you are talking about.  Not sure if he's still around anymore.
