Some maggot stole my trail camera.
« on: October 04, 2009, 02:27:50 PM »
I was scouting a patch of thick woods where I had seen some deer cross as well as had opportunities in the past. I set up a camera overlooking a run that has always produced some sort of activity. I screwed the camera into a tree last Sunday and planned to check it this Sunday afternoon.

My Dad and I walked to the spot and we began to look around. Sure enough there were two screws into the tree that I had placed it on. Someone ripped it right off the tree.

I suspect it is the same worthless peice of skin that stole my Dad's treestand last year. I am not sure what I will do next. I am pretty angry right now. I hope my temper cools off a bit.

It is land adjacent to a club I belong to. The land is unposted and the owner lets anyone go hunting on it as they please. It somewhat galls me that someone would have such a lack of respect for other people's property. When I was setting up a stand I spotted a treestand in an area that I was interested in. I backed away and found another spot. No need to ruin someone elses fun, so to speak.

Sorry to hear this. I have lost a couple stands from our biggest private piece and feared for my trail cameras. Often thought of two cameras at each position, one for the game and one for the camera...... ::) ::)

Quick story.. I was watching a large buck. Saw him on the property numerous times in archery season but never close enough for a shot. Opening day of rifle/shotgun. he steps out about 75 yards behind me in the only thick stuff with in site. He walks away thru the only places where I have no shots. I don't worry much as I am one of three with permission on more then 600 acres,AND its adjacent to more than a 2500 of water company land where none can hunt. We never see that buck that season... next fall I am giving a pistol class and one of my students begins boasting about a huge buck he shot last season. My ears perk up and we begin talking after the class. He produces a picture... OF MY BUCK!!  I ask for general area he shot it in. I don't like to divulge my spots so never like to ask others. But I felt certain this guy poached the deer. He proceeded to describe two on my stands!! he shot the deer less than 100 yards from my most productive stand. I told him he trespassed on that land. I told him never to return or I would prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. I also reminded him that I had his full name and address. Guess what.. We haven't lost a stand from that property since!!!

Yes he passed the class, but I didnt sign his certificate. One of the other officers signed that one...  ::) ;D

Good luck,
 CW
