Okay,
I'll get the ball rolling. WHat in your guys opinion is the most historically accurate movie, and most historically inaccurate movie?

tha easy one first-any st. afternood wesern frum tha 30's,40's or 50's is, in my openion inaccurate.
the most accurate--lets divide them into accuracy catagories.
dress- or costume if you prefer.
weapons
settings--i've seen some good movies that do not come close to being
accurate as to where the story took place and the setting of that
movie.
characters- i'm not sure that all the cute dialogue in most westerns is very
accurate.
story

dress--lonesome dove and robert redfords' jerimiah johnson
weapons-i'm voting for the made for tv one with ol whats his face-ya
know who i'm talkin bout.
settings- again--lonsome dove and jerimiah johnson. the secenery in
jeimiah johnson made me cold.
characters--again jerimiah, dove and ol what his names(specially tha
last one).
storyjerimiah, dove, tombstone(huckleberry).

I've been thinking about this since you posted and can't make up my mind. Seems a lot of good movies have inaccuracies, and sometimes the bad ones will surprise ya. ut my choice for accuracy, for now, is "Last Stand at Saber River". Old Tom has a way with movies. I saw the "making of" this flick and it showed Mr Selleck discussing a shootout scene and he made the point of actually COUNTING the shots he had fired and saying he would "have one left". No "seven shooters'" for him! :-D

As to least accurate, John Waynes "Comencheros". I love John Wayne, and this is a great movie, but Winvhester 1892s and Peacemakers before Texas was a state? Ouch! :oops:

tom does do a lot of good things with his movies. stories may not be correct (historical) but i'm votin with ya on the rest of it.

i think we have left out/overlooked dances with wolves--but i have a problem with it in a lot of respects.
