Enjoy it. Shoot it. What good is a gun if you don't shoot it.  ;D
Mine should be here shortly, and a I have ammo already to go for it.
Let us know how it shoots.

A number of years ago I read about a man that had a real nice shotgun. It was worth a lot of money. He never hunted with it. He had an old beater for the field. When he died his son sold the never fired shotgun for the money. I say shoot the 44.

???  I just don't understand questioning if one should shoot the firearms after it's purchased.  Shouldn't this be decided upon before passing a few hundred dollars across the counter?  Not being a wise guy just saying...if you gotta ask after the fact... ::)

Ok, that said...might as well shoot it.  There's to be 1000 of each thus far But I'm thinking more will follow based on the pre-sale popularity of them.  There's no special serial number prefix for them.  I don't see many at all, excpet matching #'s to others in a collection, being tucked away unfired.

If it makes any of the collectors feel better, I just made theirs worth more because I took mine out and shot it today.  Of all the OM and NM SA Rugers I have owned, this one is the first I have not had half a dozen "tweaks" I would want to make on it.  Overall, it's almost like they built it to my specs, except the skinny "rubber" grips, which is a disappointment, because I like the old checkered rubber ones.  These are skinny and abrasive.  The finish was nothing to brag about either but fitting was excellent.  The trigger has more creep than any ten put together I have owned in the past but that's an easy fix.  It has all the stuff I would have wanted to do to one other than that and it's going to be my number one shooter - because now that I finally have the Ruger I have always wanted, I don't need the others.  Don't rush to the "for sale" sub-forum because they were all spoken for already.  The last one to go was the .44 Spl. conversion on an OM that my Dad gave to me, and I gave that one back to him.  Now we both have a Ruger .44 Spl. and they will both be shot plenty.  I have never owned a Ruger revolver that I couldn't shoot the snot out of with no sign of wear anyway.

I only got a few minutes to use it but I put some "Skeeter loads" through it (7.5 gr Unique over a 250 LSWC).  Being a bit unsteady on the front sight, I was amazed to watch 1 1/2" five-shot clusters form at point of aim, off-hand at fifteen yards.  That's a far cry from the "one-ragged-hole" groups I have had other Ruger SAs do at twice the distance (off a rest) but it tells me this one's a winner out of the box with how easily it happened and with the first load tried and with unsteady hands (healing from recent injuries).

Recoil felt about like a small frame .38 with standard 159 gr. loads.  This is by far the best .44 Spl. I have owned, to include the conversion, a Smith 624, Rossi, a couple Taurus DAs and about half a dozen Charter Bulldogs, which I still love as the Flattop will not fit in my pocket.

Medium framed .44 Spl. with a steel XR3 grip frame and ejector rod housing, Micro sight and five and a half inch barrel - what 's NOT to shoot??  This is the .44 Spl. I have waited for most of my life.

I think anyone who has any affection for the 'Special and for medium-framed SAs will quickly forget the fretting over whether to shoot it once they do shoot it.  If the 'Special really is SPECIAL to you, as it is to so many who use it, you'll never look back.  Besides, it's YOUR gun.  Who cares if it's worth a few bucks more or less to the next guy?  The "next guy" in my case is most likely to be some luck bird at my estate sale and I am going to make good and sure he gets one well-broken in shooter.  Finding a collectible shooter is a better find anyway because, since they were all squirreled away in safes, no one ever got the pleasure to shoot one!

OK, I'll get off the soap box and go load some more 'Specials up for tomorow. ;)

I'm still waiting for mine. I hope another shipment comes in as I am supposed to be in the next batch. Here's hopin'!

I have been a fan of the .44 Special for most of my life. I have several and have never been disappointed. I shoot mostly the "Skeeter load" and have shot some of my best targets with it. I have been playing with a full wadcutter for target work recently. All loaded up with LOTS of ammo and new leather waiting on the Flattop...

I'm still waiting...

However, while I am still waiting my shooting buddy called and the upshot is we both ordered a new 50th Anniversary Flat Top .44 magnum. That will give us something to play with while we are waiting on our .44 Specials.

While I LOVE to find unfired handguns sold as used, I also dont mind a well used but well taken care of firearm . As an avid shooter and reloader, I have never looked at my guns as a commodity. My firearms are well used but when sold, a knowledgeable person will know they were not abused.
I have a .44 Spl. Blackhawk on order also, and the amount of powder it will burn will make Elmer and Skeeter smile!!

If you don't shoot your treasures, some else will. I'm with others here, shoot the gun and enjoy.

Well, my shooting buddy and I got our Lipsey Specials (5½" barrels) and are VERY pleased.

I will do a trigger job on mine and really need to get a set of aftermarket grips. I want grips that cover the back strap and have a filler behind the trigger guard (exactly like the old Herrett grips for the original flat tops). In fact, I may call Herrett tomorrow.

My problem with the grips is not what I am hearing from others. I think they look just fine. However, the trigger guard WHACKS! my middle knuckle something fierce with even the "Skeeter loads". Frankly, I would put a set of Pachmayr's or Hogue's on quick as a wink if they only made some that fit these grip frames >:(.

Maybe the rubber grips people will put these in production.

I got one on the way now too, a 5 1/2" 'er.  Should be here tomorrow or Friday....can't wait.  No question as to shoot 'er or not...not to me anyway.  BANG!!!  My biggest question right now is what holster for it.  I'm leaning toward an El Paso Tom Three Persons, but haven't decided for sure yet.  What ya'll using?

I bought hogue rubber grips for my blackhawks because they fit my large hands and aided in comfortable shooting.I sold a  41 mag Ruger BH to the adult son of a friend of ours & he added Hogue rubber grips, everyone in the family has fired it several times & commented the grips were an excellent addition.

Hopalong7, when mine goes along, it's carried Mexican style. I've never bought a holster for this gun.
kiddekop, I like the Pachmayr's and Houge's also on Redhawks and RBHs

Mine came yesterday.....Oh I'm happy!!!  ;D  The grandkids were over for supper last night so it didn't get shot, but that will be taken care of tonight or tomorrow morning.  As most others have said finish wasn't to be bragged on, fit was excellent, end shake, lock-up, cylinder gap all are very good.  Trigger wasn't even too bad.  I'm in LOVE again!  This makes my fourth Special(first Ruger though).
Sorry S.B., I got to have some leather for this little darlin'.

Well, consider the 1928 Thompson submachinegun, USN property, by Colt. Can't give the sucker away.  Guess I'll stick it in the dumpster, cause, well it's had several hundred rounds through it....this year.
I just got one of the Ruger flattop 44 Specials, yes, last night,  arguably the most accurate Blackhawk I've had.  Had to shoot it..didn't have any proper cast bullets, threw together some loads with some 240 Rainiers  I've had for years.  6 shots at about 30 yards that went into less than 3 inches.  Not bad for well used PMC brass, H-110 powder that fell between min and max and the first time out with a new gun.  If you don't want yours....come to papa!

.  Had to shoot it..

I would never buy any new gun to make another safe queen. I shoot every gun I own. Just can't warm up to the totally collector mind set? Mind you, I don't mind their thinking, it makes for some very nice purchases when things turn around, financially? My $.02

I can understand someone just collecting and not shooting a firearm and I'm glad there out there.
Nothing is more enjoyable for me to buy a safe queen and take it out and shoot it for the first time and thank that collector for saving it for me ;)
Value may go down, but you can not put a price on the enjoyment you receive from using a firearm over the years.
BTW my Lipseys .44 Special is a great little shooter.

I only had two unfired guns when Katrina filled my gun closet and house with 13 feet of the nastiest, corrosive slop imaginable!  You cannot count how many times I've thought about how nice it would have been to have shot those guns.

Unfired guns are no enjoyment to me anymore.  Now, I can't afford the quality of firearms that I had prior to the storm so, I shoot everything I have as often as I can.  If all I want is to look at a gun, I'll get a photograph of it. LOL
