cattleman front sight whoops
« on: September 21, 2009, 03:53:04 PM »
so i was filing down the front sight on my uberti cattleman, got a little crazy and filed it too far, and now it shoots high.   what options do i have besides aiming low?   can it be heated, pulled out, and replaced?

Howdy,
I read a post on anther site recommending that the top of the sight be roughened and a bead of J B Weld applied. Allow the goop to set with the barrel upside down. After 24 hours the J B can be filed to shape and painted. It might be enough to make a difference.

You could always file a dovetail in the top of the blade (after filing it flat) and add a piece to it (then file the whole thing smooth and paint or blue it).
Aim small, miss small!!!

i bought a used one years back and it  shot high  a local smith replaced it  not a big deal ,uberti may do it also  if ya call them, how  high is it shooting? you can also change how yu shoot it , use like a 6oclock type of sighting set your  target on top of the sight, i like to do that alot anyhow

yeah, i planned on going slow and checking often, my biggest mistake was not putting up a fresh big piece of paper, some old hols screwed me up.   it shoots 4-6" high.   maybe i can call uberti and ask them about it, if i can replace it i might just do it and try again.
