What is a Krag rifle worth these days??????

  While looking over one of the local sporting gooods store, I saw an old Krag rifle sitting on the shelf. I looked it over. It appears to be uncut or altered. The barrel is the original 30" job, the bore looks bright and clean. I was pretty impressed with the rifle. It was priced at $695. When I got home I thought I have seen them for much more, but I know it was at Cabela's and they tend to be high. Is this a steal, overpriced or about right.? for the age of the rifle I would say it is in very good shape.

I would think if you checked some of the auction sites like gunbroker you could get a fair idea of what they are going for. Now having said that, since you have already seen what shape its in go for it. Why?, because you will not probably get one from the auction sites as nice as the one you have described. I paid $180 for mine years ago, good rifling but cut down bbl & stock. Darn near broke my arm whipping out my wallet. Slug the bbl as they do tend to run oversized and do shoot cast bullets. you will I think like it. Frank

I'll see them at gun shows (usually the Wanemacher show in Tulsa) from time to time going for anywhere from $600 - $1300ish, depending on the particulars.  $695 doesn't seem terribly unreasonable to me in that light.
