« on: July 08, 2009, 04:54:27 AM »
Where is everyone purchasing Black Horn 209 powder?  Mail order?  I cannot find any locally, in Central NY.  Thanks for the help.

Several places have it available online. You will want to shop around for best prices. Shipping can vary from one place to another, some like Grafs include it, but if ordering over 3 jugs, it may be cheaper to go with another supplier that has a lower price per jug. You will have to pay HAZ MAT fee of $22.50, and usually about $10 for Shipping. Most places will ship up to 48 pounds for the same shipping and Haz Mat charge.

Midsouth, MidwayUSA, Graf & Sons, Powder Valley are some places that sell it. Powder Valley has it for $26.65 per jug, Graf has it for about $30 per jug which includes shipping. You would still have to add in the Haz Mat for both.

If you go to Powder Valley's Home page, click on "Powders", then click on "Accurate Arms", Blackhorn 209 will be on the top line.

The retailers are charging just about anything they want for it, I have seen it for $29.99, $34.99, $39.99, $43.99, and sit down $48.00 just last week in a shop. I know these guys need to make a profit, but that last one is getting his whole Haz Mat fee back on the one jug.

It is an excellent powder, and I use it exclusively in my 209 primer rifles.

Tip: If you can get a few guys together and pool your money, you can spread out that Haz Mat and shipping charge. Another option is to see if your local range will add it to their order.

Thanks guys.  I placed an order for some today.  A 1/2 hour later, a co-worker told me he and some friends order powder occasionally for reloading, so I may get in on that in the futureto share the hazmat cost.  Thanks again for the info.

I've been asking for it at every Gander Mountain store I go to, making as big a deal of it as I can and then I called their main office and talked to the guy in charge of procuring their hunting supplies. He sais there hasn't been much interest shown in it in MN ,and WI. I mentioned that the Eau Clair ,WI . Sportsmans warehouse can't keep it on the shelves.  He countered that the price was too high for people to want to buy. Of course if the can't buy it ,they never will learn!    Ken

Ken,

You have to understand, not all of the Retail Outlets (Big Box or otherwise), want to have to pay for the merchandise they order for as much as 90 days (1 quarter). A lot more companies today think the whole world owes them, to sell their products. They only want to have to pay for the merchandise, AFTER they have turned it over. I'm betting that MAY be the case here. They really can't be that CLUELESS, CAN THEY? ;D I'm betting he didn't tell you the whole story! ;)

Sure would like to hear from anyone who knows where to buy BH209 off the shelf in SE Michigan.
No luck at Dick's or Gander Mtn. in my area.
In fact the guys there that I've talked to as recently as yesterday had never heard of it.

Ironically I only work 2 miles from the Metrics Unlimited facility.
I'd like to drive over during lunch and give Nick an order but I'd really like to find the powder first.

Cabelas RT 23 Dundee, but call first to see if it's in stock! I drove up from Port Clinton OH and they were out.

Thanks eye-shot but that would be a bit of a drive from where I'm at (Macomb Twp.).
It would be cheaper to pay the $20 hazmat fee and have them ship it.
But $50 shipped for 10 oz. of powder is more than I care to spend right now.

Just checked Bass Pro Shop's website and it's not even listed.

Bass Pro had it back in March, but their price was very high. I don't know if it is still there or not.
