Dowby77...thanks for posting this.  I was just in the local sporting goods store  Monday, asking about the wolf season and the folks there had not heard anything yet.

This really is a first, I can't remember ever having a T&E species recover and subsequently be legally hunted under State authority.

Personally, I'd consider a fair chase wolf harvested as equal to a mature bull from a trophy standpoint.  Should make for some exciting hunting this year.

Just talked to my wife she works for a popular store in boise, she said people were in line waiting to buy tags when the doors opened. Glad to see it finally happen. I know a hunter that lost a horse last elk season to wolfs Im sure he and many others will be glad. Just wish I could be there.

Got my wolf tag today!  In appx 1 hour of opening up sales the tag number I got showed near 2000 tags had already been sold.

Should make for an interesting hunting season.   ;D

My wuf-gun will be my .264 Mag, Sako Finnbear, Swarovski 3 x 9 and 140 grain sierra's.  Shoots about 3/8 " @ 100 yards.

An injuction has been filed.Hopefully the judge will see the case in our(hunters)favor. We will know sometime next week.so I wouldnt buy all those tags just yet.I talked with fish and game and they said refunds will be given if there is no season. So everyone out there keep your fingers crossed.Call your regional IDFG office sometime towards the end of next week and they should have some answers for us

Good luck to us all

I figured there would be an injunction filed.  Now to see if the Court issues a stay of activity.

Either way, the "wolf tag" goes on my wall as a momento of my life long hunting experiences or I'll be hanging a nice pelt next to my other trophies.  Rather have the "tag" than the $11.50.  Guess I'll be surprised if we actually get to conduct a hunt.

Agree, it is something that will have to be watched closely.

Stay tuned...you betcha!

IDAHO FISH AND GAME
HEADQUARTERS NEWS RELEASE
Boise, ID

Date:    September 9, 2009
Contact:    Ed Mitchell
(208) 334-3700

idaho wolf hunts will continue

Late Tuesday, September 8, U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy of the U.S. District Court in Missoula denied a preliminary injunction that would have returned the wolf to federal endangered species protection.

"We're pleased that the judge recognized Idaho's ability to manage wolves in a way that ensures their continued existence," Idaho Fish and Game Director Cal Groen said. "We intend to demonstrate that the Fish and Game will responsibly manage wolves like the other 10 big game species."

Idaho will continue to manage wolves according to its approved wolf population management plan.

The injunction was sought by parties to a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's decision to remove gray wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains from the endangered species list earlier this year.

"We will now have an opportunity to demonstrate to the court that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service decision to delist complies with the Endangered Species Act," Deputy Attorney General Clive Strong said.

Idaho's wolf hunt will continue as planned. It opened in the Lolo and Sawtooth wolf zones Tuesday, September 1. It opens September 15 in the Selway and Middle Fork zones, and October 1 in the rest of the state.

The order is available here: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/wildlife/wolves/.
