Mueller APV 4.5-14x40mm
« on: September 01, 2009, 03:02:20 AM »
I have a chance to buy a Mueller APV that has had very light use.  The scope was on a rifle that was an unfired trade in.  The scope would be used on a .22 Hornet Handi rifle or a Rock River .223 AR-15.  The price is half of retail, I think this is fair....  Will the scope stand up to the recoil of the AR-15?  Or is this a 22LR type scope?  All my shooting is under 150yds.
I just took the Mueller and a Swift premier 4-12x 40mm and set them up @ 50yds side by side  At low power and at 12x The Swift had the edge in clarity but not by much.

Thanks, Eddie

Pretty good scopes and excellent for the cost new. They are primarily intended as a varmint and predator rifle scope and yes it should do fine on an AR.

Bill, thanks For the good info.  The Mueller has a new home on my Encore Pro Hunter 17 HMR with a 24"stainless barrel.  The scope and rifle seem to be a good match.  I will post a range report this week after a trip to the 100 yard range.

Thanks, Eddie

Just sighted in the Mueller/Encore pro hunter 17HMR at 70yds. in my back yard with the scope set at 4.5x for one and 10x for group two.  The groups were shot off a saw horse kneeling on a hunting cushion (the grass is wet).  The first group .40" and the second was .35" 8)
This is the first scope I have had on the 17 HMR barrel.  Can't wait to try it off the bench at 100yds. ;D
Once the objective was adjusted the scope was clear and crisp.......A+ Mueller...

I've got one that is mounted on a Mosin nagant shooting 7.62x54r which is about at the 30-06 level.  It has held from recoil, but I did have to send it in for moisture entering the scope during a hunt in the rain.  The reaoil warning was from the heavy magnums people were mounting them on.  Anything under 30-06 level should be fine.
