Hey Tom in Boise......

I read your answer to my post on the old forum about the Ashley Ghost Ring Sight you put on your Trails End 45 colt.  Since the sight mounts to the scope mount screws, did you have to remove the the factory rear sight from the gun to keep it from interfering with your vision when using the ghost ring sight.

Thanks for your help. :D

Receiver Sights for Winchesters

Tom,

Did you have to change the front sight on your rifle to use the Ashley Ghost? I am partial to Marlins and I have a Lyman 66 peeper on my 1894C that I like really well. I usually take the apetures out of the sight for hunting. Lets me see things better. I have a Win 94 XTR Angle Eject with a 24" barrel in 7-30 Waters coming, and I want to install a receiver sight on it. I intend to use this rifle as a coyote calling tool.

I also understand that there is a difference in the frame size between the regular 94s and the big bore 94s, which requires a different sized sight if you use a Lyman or a Williams brand. The Ashley would be the same for either, right?

I sure would appreciate any comments or advice that you might give in this matter. Thanks much.  :!:

Thanks Tom. Your preference for the Williams answers my question. I have not tried the Ashley, but from pictures and comments, I think I would much prefer my Lyman or your Williams. My Lyman does not require tools to adjust, which is nice, and it can be easily removed from the rifle by pushing a release button that will allow the sight to separate from the base mounted on the side of the frame.

One more question, please? Does the rear sight dovetail take a standard 3/8" filler block. I notice that Marbles makes one in that size that is sold by Brownells, and I think they sell some others in different sizes. I guess the other choice would be to mount a rear sight that folds down. They also sell those in the Brownells catalog. Got any advice??

Thanks Tom, for the info. You need to understand that I am one of those guys who wears suspenders and a belt both. Always have a back up!!! But you are right, why would you ever need the regular rear sight (normally)? I hope to be holding that new used  W-94  within the next few days, and am excited about getting acquainted with it.
