First buck!
« on: November 05, 2009, 09:09:12 AM »
Last year I took my son hunting with a new to us purchased 336 3030 with crossbolt.  He got robbed due to dad being to dumb to take off the safety.  Happy to report the boy scored his fist buck a seven pointer with the same gun.  It was loaded with 125 seirra gameking bullet loaded at mid levels.  His shot was placed a little far back just getting the tip of the lungs.  Knowing it was a youth shot and not seeing it crash we waited 45 minutes to go look. The bullet did a great job with nice exit wound.  The blood trail was a little light but I felt it was due to shot placement more than bullet design.  Would recommend the load to others starting a new small framed hunter.  He sighted in using 110 grain plinkers so there was basically no recoil,  I double checked the zero with the hunting round.  I felt this allowed him to get practice without any flinch or fear of recoil.  Sorry had to brag on the boy.  Good luck to all on the upcoming season. That sounds great, and those reduced recoil or youth loads are just the ticket for young hunters.  I'm glad he was able to score.

You tell your son GOOD JOB!!! ;D He and the rifle both did what they had to in order to put the meat on the table :D . I can't blame you for being a little proud too, Dad  ;) . Now, where are the pics?

I teach school and don't do the net at home.  The schools filter stops any photo uploading, we can email but not publish to the web.  One day I am going to have cough up for net at home but being in the sticks anything with speed is high.   Thanks for the kind words, he's a very happy young man, naturally the old man is pretty tickled to.  SN
