7.62x25mm Tokarev in CZ52??
« on: October 03, 2003, 09:11:32 AM »
:? Does any one load for this round.  Have your tried cast bullets? If so what mold is working for you? What type of powder, primer, bullet are you using?  What type of velocity are you getting?  I just got a 7.62x25mm barrel for my CZ52.  So any help with what has worked for you and yours would be greatly appreciated. :D

Thanks
Kirkned

First I would suggest you find yourslef a Lyman Reloading Manual - it will have cast bullet data for the 30 Mauser which you can use for the Tok or the CZ.  2nd, somewhere on Graybeard's site is a post regarding handloading the 7.62x25mm that has some great loads.

You may wish to reconsider the cast bullet loads.  The 7.62 takes a .308 bullet and it might be pretty tough to find cast bullets in the proper weight range for that caliber without casting them yourself.  And you would have to cast them hard enough to withstand 1400'/sec without leading the hay out of your bore.  HTH. Mikey.

Does the 7.62x25 use a '.308'?  An SKS is also called a 7.62 but uses a .311 diameter bullet.  I was wondering about that...if in fact .311 bullets could be used in the CZ-52.  I measured a factory Sellier&Bellot bullet and 'get this'...it measured .305. I am thinking maybe they use smaller diameter bullets so they can load it hotter and keep the pressure down.....anybody have any thoughts about this?
....make it count

7.62 - 308 or 311

Robert:  the 7.62 should be a 308 diameter.  Yes, it is interesting that they call the AK/SKS round a 7.62 when it carries a 310-311 diameter bullet.  Hay, their 7.62x54R carries a 308 bullet.

You could probably load a 310-311 lighter weight pistol bullet into the Tok case, something like a 71 or 77 grain slug for a 32 ACP, or maybe even some of the XTPs for that caliber.  And, that may be how and why some ammo makers use those sized bullets to keep pressures down.

On one of the other forums there were questions about handloading this cartridge, in the Self Defense forum for pistols, and I think they were using charges of H110 behind a 90 gn .308 HP and getting factory velocities and good accuracy.  You may want to try and find those posts.  HTH.  Mikey.
