S&W,M&P Revolver Date of MFR.?

Any one have the date of manufacture by serial number of S&W revolvers? I need date for a Smith& Wesson Military &Police .38Spl. Serial # S-81289X From around 1946. Is it pre1942,1942-1945 or post 1945?Thanks.HorseFeathers.

I got the info I was looking for from Smith& wesson Customer Service Department. It was made in 1946. HorseFeathers.

According the the SCSW your gun was more than likely a 1945 gun going by the serial number time frames.

S 811120- S 999999    1945-1948

Smith doesn't always get the year right when you call. Especially on guns as old as yours.

I'd guess 1945-1948? Does it have many of the prewar features(hammer, long action, etc.)?
