Blackhorn 209 Question
« on: September 18, 2009, 02:18:11 PM »
Hello all,

Has anyone had any experience with "static cling" problems with the blackhorn powder in quick loader tubes? I bought some clear plastic tubes to make some so premeasured charges and a bullet for "speedloading" in the field. When I poured the blackhorn powder in the reloading tube, about a 1/4 of the powder clings to the sides of the tube. You have to shake and flick the tube against something pretty hard to get all the powder to come out.

I even noticed a couple of pellets clinging to the inside of lid to the blackhorn 209 container. Is this normal? Or is there something I am missing? If so any tips would be greatly appreciated. The last thing I need is to ignite powder that is stuck to the side of the tube due to static cling.

Thanks,
WCB

walmpus,

Take a fabric softener sheet, open your powder measure or tubes, push the sheet down inside a turn it a few times, your problem will go away. With the small funnel topped measures, sometimes the powder will bridge if you try to pour it in too fast as well. The fabric softener sheet is the best remedy for both problems.

Thanks for the tip Busta. I have been racking my brain (not there is much there to beat up on) on how to figure this out. I know that may sound petty but I like to test/use everything before season arrives and I set foot in the woods. I like to let things as smooth as possible and the way the powder is sticking there is no way for a quick follow up shot should one be needed.

;D I think Hunters Specialties (HS) makes a fresh earth sheet if you are worried about smell for hunting.

I was kidding.  I carry dryer lint with me in the woods in case I need to start a fire.

Busta,

I just tried it and it work. Cant beat that.....the only problem is the tube smells like a "fresh spring rain." LOL...........I am taking your advice and getting some of the fresh earth scent sheets from HS. I use those anyway so it should work out nicely. I like to keep things simple and that is just how this worked out so I appreciate the help.

Bubba,

Lint is the trick for helping start a fire for sure......and as old and raggedy as most of my clothes are it doesnt take long for my dryer lint filter to fill up so if you need some extra lint dont hesitate to ask :)

Now if I can just get to the range next week and test out my new MU plug with this blackhorn to see what happens. You guys ever try harvester bullets? I am going to try some 300 grain scorpions, 300 grain hornady txp mags with both bullets in the new easy load rib crusher sabot and see what happens. I also have some 295 power belts to try. My gun has a great love for powerbelts so I figured I will try them also. You never know..........I am just looking for bullet this year that gets a good pass thru. I get to the range and I will post results . Thanks again guys.
