Omega breech plug removal and scopes

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've frequented these boards, hope everyone is doing well.

The urge to buy a new gun has come again. 

I was in a shop today eying a TC Omega and a Triumph.  I liked the Omega.  The fit and finish were far superior to the Triumph, however the guy at the shop said that it was tough to remove the breech plug on the Omega's when you had a scope mounted on the gun.  The scope would interfere with the breech plug wrench.

Any truth to this?

It would, but all you need is a ratchet (or breaker bar) and a 4 or 6 inch extension and a socket. I broke the factory T/C wrench so I just carry 3/8 breaker bar and a 7/16 socket in my shooting box for my encore. I wouldn't let that be a reason not to buy an omega.

Yes the wrench is crap though. As the other said just use a 12" extension and ratchet, I bought a cheapo at walmart and just devote it to my ML box.

There really is no problem removing the breech plug on an Omega. The wrench that comes with it is awkward but usable but a ratchet, ext and socket work better. Just buy a cheap one and keep it with your ML box. I think the salesman just wanted to sell you a more expensive rifle. Probably works on commission. LOL

I use a ratchet, extension and 7/16" socket for my Encore, just like the others.

As I've never had to remove my breech plug in the field, dealing with a socket wrench at home or at the range isn't too much of a hassle.

I definitely liked the Omega more than the Triumph and it's good to know that the sales clerk wasn't just blowing smoke.

I have them both... and the Omega is a very fine rifle... it is a lifetime tool

I've removed the breechplug many time from my Omega with the tool provided by the factory(I don't apply 200 foot pounds of torque?) without any trouble what so ever? Gun store guru or commando?

Use a good quick release (detachable) scope mount and just take the scope off for cleaning etc.
I have done it that way for years and works great.
