Help before I get rid of all my H&R's!
« on: October 21, 2009, 10:16:48 AM »
Hey guys I was pointed this direction before I got rid of my H&R's. I have (2) .223 and a .243. About every ten shots a case gets stuck in them. It doesn't matter if its factory or a reload. The chambers look great and I see no reason for them to be sticking. I looked through the FAQ and came across the Ejector/extractor thread. Does this change the spring loaded ejector to a manual extractor? So another words I want it to push out the case as the gun opens rather then just sit there. Can you guys lead me in the right direction. I'm so tired of cases sticking. In fact I have a small piece of brass rod about the size of a coat hanger that we just drop down the barrel and the cases pop out. All these guns are pretty new (less then 100 rounds). As of right now I hate these guns because of it.

I'd give it a couple of try from the FAQ's but if that doesn't work, I'd contact them and send them in to the factory to fix!  You should be having fun shooting, not messing with stuck cases!  44 Man

I converted all my ejectors to extractor which I prefer.  End of problem.  There for a while, I thought about putting a huntsman forearm and ramrod on my 30-06 to knock the cases out ::)  It was a real pain in the butt and made the rifle very unreliable.  Now they're all extractor and I love them.  Super accurate and "Handi".

So if I change the ejectors to the extractor the case is pushed out when the gun is open? Is that correct? I beleive that is how the Thompson Contenders are and that is how I would like it.

Welcome Shrek! That's true if you convert it to a factory style extractor, but that involves modifying the underlug and making or buying parts from H&R, unless they've changed their policy, they won't convert it for you, the conversion info is in the FAQs.  I'd try the ejector tune info in the FAQs and Help sticky first, it usually works as long as you make sure the chamber and ammo is clean and dry as well as not shooting loads that are too hot, either will cause sticking brass, milsurp ammo in the 223 can cause it too.

Thanks. I personally don't think there is enough savings in reloading for the .223 so I just buy bulk factory stuff when its on sale so no worries there. If I need extreme accuracy I grab my 22-250's or 6mm. I will try the BB trick and polish things up and see what that does for me then if all else fails I will do the extractors.

It's pretty simple, lots of pics shown in the FAQs.
