Front Sight Paint
« on: September 16, 2009, 03:06:56 PM »
All of my rifles have a brass front sight and the older I get the harder it is to line up with the rear sight. I do wear glasses and it helps, but I thought about painting either white or red dot at the back of the front sight to give me a better sight pattern. What type of paint would adhere well to brass? THANKS, Hawkenman

for years i have kept two small bottles of model paint in my shooting box, along with some q-tips for just such a thing.  white and bright yellow.  no red.

Fingernail polish works great for me. It's hard when it dries and comes in just about any color you want.

That is a great trick that I have been using for years.
I use white fingernail polish. Clean that front sight real well with lighter fluid to get  all oil off of it.
I don't try to make a flat dot, I make a little blob, or ball of white paint.
It catches the light real well, makes a great contrast between the dark rear sight, and the dark deer.
Aim small don't miss.

+1......... my front sight is brass, my rear sight is blued steel... and the fingernail polish sticks just fine.

My front sight is bright RED, rear sight is metalic GREEN... nice contrast.
