bodygaurd wont group
« on: September 18, 2009, 02:51:30 PM »
I just got a no dash model 38 bodygaurd . I am disapointed, as all I can get is a 4 inch group at 7 yards shooting single action with a rest. I would take the blame, but to compare I shot my 642 same rest, distance and ammo, and get a 1 inch group. Have tryed three different brands of ammo.  Anybody know what could be wrong? Thanks

Probably because we, for sure I, have no idea.   :-[  I have a M49 Bodyguard and used to shoot the old - OLD PPC with it back 35 odd years ago.  That included 6 rounds, prone at 60 yards.  Never had a problem keeping them in the target with 148 gr. wadcutters.

jessy:  the only problem I could imagine is the cylinder being out of alignment with the barrel.  You can check this one of two way:  fire some slugs into a paper bag full of newsprint and recover the bullets to examine them to see if it looks as though they have traveled square down the barrel - that is, the rifling appears to be the same all the way around the slug, not elongated on one side with the bullet out of shape from going crooked down the tube.  Another means to do this is to disassemble the piece (remove the hammer) so you can shine a light down through the hammer pin hole to see if the chambers line up with the bore.  Of course, you can also do this with a wodden rod or dowel to see if when you push the dowel down the bore it gets stuck on a chamber wall - then you know you have a alignment problem.

And, you can always call Smith and Wesson and ask them for assistance - they will probably want to see the revolver to determine if it is in proper alignment.

I would check with S&W first before I give up on the gun and order another.....HTH.
