I am sorry to post that I was unable to go out this weekend and go shooting >:( I subcontracted a job that I totally underestimated (physically) and ended up with a very bad sunburn to the eyes, much like a flash burn to welding. My eye lids have been too swollen and eyesight a little fuzzy, but papaws advice of thin sliced potatoes and a cold wash cloth over them has helped a TON  ::) ;) I love the old man, and his advice has always proven true.
So I hope to get out there and give this ol 270 a run in a day or so more... sorry for the wait fellas, ya can't shoot what ya can't see :'( ;D

Well I managed to test fire the barrel at least and all is well :) I fired 3 shots and took it apart and every thing looks great as before, so it seems larrys fix works great. I wasn't able to shoot for groups, but every thing is solid as a rock.

I am glad it worked, I am doing another just like it except in .243.  This is a picture of the prepared shelf, look hard and you can see the little key way milled into the squared up shelf.  Larry

That would be correct.  The shelf was filed off at an angle, left to right, high to low, I don't know how that could have been done, but it was definately very wrong.  I would have had it done today, but I had to go find a different Pickup, the one I had lost the front breaks, cluch, and the plastic radiator cracked at the top hose fitting, the WS wipers stopped running, all inside of a week, I was just tired of fixing things.  Larry

Got it finished before the Whisky attacked, so life is good.  This is proving to be very simple to do, once you have done a couple it only takes about an hour.  Larry

That's alot nicer fix than what I did about 10 years ago to a 30-06 handi before I was "into" them. I don't like to admit I beat the front edge in with a ball peen hammer then filed the flat back. Actually worked perfect for many shots before I sold it cheap. Never got loose again. I had to reblue the barrel too since it had none and was well worn. Damn thing still shot inside 2 inches with most ammo.
